We were able to get the turf for free from the sod farm who originally sold it to SLU after we called them directly and explained the situation. We then hired another company who charged us less than 1/2 of what SLU was willing to reinstall it for. Plus we received a guarantee on the work for 1 year. Whether it was the winter, the sod was diseased, or the sod was not installed correctly, the real problem was that after a relationship of many years, the company was not willing or unable to come to a reasonable solution to replace the dead sod. The replacement of the sod was to be entirely at our expense. Fortunately, the turf company stood by its product and replaced it for free. The owner spent a good deal of time doing research and engaged an extension service so it wasn't that they didn't care that there was a problem, they just didn't meet their promise of 'making it right' for us.
No complaints on the monthly regular maintenance but I wouldn't recommend them for a large ticket item unless you get a guarantee in a written contract. The written emails from the owner did not mean anything in the end.
"We installed new JaMur Zoysia sod for client in June, 2013. The sod was installed properly according to industry standards and thrived until dormancy later in the year. Client brought to our attention in early Spring of 2014 that the lawn was not greening up. We thought it was still dormant. We began talking to other industry professionals including the sod farm where we purchased the sod, the Dekalb County Extension office and the turf specialist at UGA and learned that the severe winter weather had damaged or killed Bermuda and Zoysia lawns across the state of Georgia. We called the sod farm again and was told their current crop of zoysia was not doing well and they were unable to replace our clients' sod at no cost. After no avail, we recommended our client call the sod farm directly in hopes of a more favorable response from the sod farm. In addition, we offered to install sod at cost ($500). Our client was not satisfied with this resolution and cancelled our services. We are happy to see that our recommendation to talk to the sod farm directly resulted in our former client getting replacement sod at no cost."
