ROSE HAMPTON DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION

Horrible experience. Marty was good at selling the job, but it went downhill from there. Workers started the project, and then nobody showed up at all. Many calls went unanswered. I finally got a response when I filed a complaint with the BBB. The electrician they sent came, but then told us he would only do the job if we paid him, and we already paid Marty (Rose Hampton) for the job. The person who came to finish the job griped constantly about not being paid enough and was always asking for more money. Contsruction quality for the framing and deck was good, but mediocre in finishing the inside.

Marty is a great salesman. Construction started on time, actually too early. They began construction before the plans (done by Marty's architect) were complete. Building plans were not secured (as we had agreed) and when I insisted upon them being obtained, construction stopped for nearly 6 months. His payment schedule would have penalized us too much to fire him at that point, and we kept hoping they would return. Frequently, when I spoke with Marty about the lack of progress he would yell and curse at me. Eventually building permits were obtained, and a little more work was done, but his crews kept changing and did atrociously poor work. Much of what he built had to be redone after we finally came to our senses and fired him after nearly a year. Many of the promised materials were not used, framing was crooked and sloppy, crews were rude, I could go on. Absolutely terrible experience. Marty is a dishonest, angry man who has no business being a contractor.

Marty is a great salesman, very polite, and punctual. He doesn't supervise his subcontractors and the quality of work is very poor and slow. As soon as we made a progress payment work stopped for weeks at a time. We were out of our master bath for six months. I finally stopped paying him until work progress caught up with payments. Punch list items and site clean-up were not done. Back porch electrical work was not done. Master bath countertop backsplash was not installed. Workers got paint on my carpets, damaged my washer and dryer when they climbed on them instead of using a ladder, and did not insulate exterior walls. They fixed other mistakes when I complained but I couldn't find them all. The master bath shower pan leaks - I am hiring another tile contractor to tear out Marty's brand new shower and fix it. Marty said he would send a crew to finish the work but its been six weeks and I haven't seen them or gotten a phone call. The project is a disaster.

THE PEOPLE WORKING FOR THE COMPANY ARE POLITE, COURTEOUS AND DID THEIR BEST. BUT THE COMPANY ITSELF CUT MANY CORNERS AND DID NOT LIVE UP TO THE PROMISES MADE BEFORE SIGNING THE CONTRACT. FOR EXAMPLE EVEN THOUGH THE CONTRACT EXPLICITLY CALLS FOR THE USE OF PINE, THE CHEAPER HEMP FUR WAS USED INSTEAD. IN ADDITION, THEY WERE CONTRACTUALLY OBLIGATED TO COMPLETE THE PROJECT IN 5 WEEKS, BUT IT TOOK THEM OVER 16 WEEKS TO COMPLETE. GETTING THEM TO CLEAN THE JOB SITE WAS A CHALLENGE.
