J Lux Painting

My family has been working with Jose Lux for many years, and they always do an excellent and detailed job. They pay attention to the small things and the job is done right the first time. I’m very particular with my home improvement projects, and I’ve always been happy with their work.

I took photographs of the exterior of my home 2 days prior to the job being started. JLux arrived on time and completed the job with a crew of two men in 4 days time. Upon completion of the job and walk around inspection with JLux Owner, it appeared the quality of the job was acceptable and JLux was paid the full fee. A few days after the job ended, I noticed an awning that had been removed by the crew and replaced by the crew, was not re-installed properly and texted the Owner to please have someone return to re-install it properly, Owner’s text response was “get your sons to fix it”.(pictures of the improperly hanging awning after the job completed). Several more days later (approximately 7-10 days after job completion) a damaged area appeared at the lower right corner of a 2nd story dormer window that was not present prior to the job start and was not visable at the time of final inspection by homeowner/ JLux Owner when the final payment was made. I contacted JLux immediately to report the issue and asked him to return to my home and inspect this area. I was told he was out of the country, and that he had no liability to the damage. Upon further inspection of the damaged area, it appeared that the damage incurred was likely done by 2 man crew in order to get paint chips to match the paint (similar to what they had done on the rear of the house, removing a plank in order to match the paint, then repairing the plank). The only explanation of the damage suddenly appearing days after the final inspection is the crew likely taped over the damage they incurred and painted over the tape, and the rain that occurred several days after the job must have washed the painted tape away. There is no other explanation. The Owner himself was present at the final inspection and knows full well the damage was not visable. I find this not acceptable for a $3600 job, it is deceptive, dis-honest business practices. The Owner refused to fix the damage his Crew incurred and denies they touched the area in question on or around the dormer window. I found a handyman to replace the board and repaint the area (but I have retained the damaged board as evidence). The handyman charged me $200 to in essence repair the damage done by JLux Crew. I believe it would be fair for JLux to reimburse me for the $200 I had to pay to repair the damage to my home that JLux incurred, then covered up deceptively, it’s completely unethical business practices.

He didn't even use a drop cloth and did not get paint anywhere. He did painting for both me and my neighbor. He was in and out in two days and he did my kitchen and my family room, including the ceilings.

I have never seen a painter draw a thin line with caulk at every corner and point where the wall meets the baseboard and so forth so he can have a cleaner line. His method is exquisite. He is his own biggest critic and he is a perfectionist. He did an awesome job. He insisted that we call him back if there were any problems, which there have not been.

We installed a kitchenette in the basement. We bought the cabinets at IKEA & put them together ourselves. Jose & Maurice did almost everything else except for the plumbing. There were a few things to figure out (like the best place for the sink & handles), but it turned out great. Jose makes everything look fresh & clean & has very high standards. I highly recommend him.
