HD Installations

I would not use HD Installations again. Spoke with Andres, the owner, on the phone and got an estimate to add 3 ceiling speakers in my theater room and switch out an Onkyo receiver with a new Marantz. Sent pictures and floor plan and got estimate of $700. He sounded professional and cordial on the phone. Showed up around 4 pm to start job first day. While installing speakers, kept mentioning how difficult the job was. Speakers nearly installed first night and came back next night to finish with speakers and switch out receiver. Had difficulty with complexity of the higher-end Marantz receiver. All speakers were wired but couldn’t calibrate speakers because the Marantz calibration cord was too short and he had no extension. Nor could he get zone 2 speakers to produce sound. While they were working with receiver, I noticed that the Marantz power cord was not used. I asked that he use the Marantz power cord with the Marantz receiver and leave the Onkyo cord with the Onkyo receiver. He didn’t think that was necessary. After requesting a third time, he rudely turned to me as stated, “How about I just finish this and leave.” Mind you “finishing this” was not the complete project for which he was contracted to perform. He did switch the power cord and continued to work with getting the zone 2 speakers to work. At about 9:30pm he indicated everything was wired correctly but he couldn’t figure why zone 2 speakers were not producing sound. Said it’s probably just a programing issue. He indicated he was leaving the country the next day and when he returned he would check with me and see if I was able to get the zone 2 speakers to work. He would come back and calibrate the speakers in the theater room and trouble shoot the zone 2 speakers. When I got ready to pay him, he said the price had increased to $800. That was the first mention of a price increase. He later agreed to the $700 he had quoted. After he left I looked at the back of the Marantz receiver at the connections he had made. He had incorrectly doubled the new right rear speaker on the left rear channel terminal of the receiver. In addition to failing to wire the new right rear speaker to the right rear terminal, it is incorrect to wire 2 speakers’ positive and negative wires together on 1 set of terminals on the Marantz receiver as he did. This was confirmed when I contacted both a technician at the company I purchased the receiver from and Marantz technical service. He had also combined 4 pairs of zone 2 left and right speaker wires respectively onto two left/right channel terminals on the receiver. The manner in which HD Installations wired the right rear channel speakers and the zone 2 speakers would have damaged my $2,000 Marantz receiver if I had continued to operate the unit as wired. Haven’t heard back from Andres. I would not use HD Installations again.
