Small jobs welcome

"I've been using Scenic City Plumbing 15+ years, I've always been very satisfied with their work and professionalism. 2022's project were to clear some slow shower and sink drains and to install a new downstairs commode (and dispose of the old one). The team was finished in an hour, and the results are great! Thank you!"

"This is the first time I used Goss Plumbing and he will be the only plumber I ever use in the future. He is on time, polite, professional, and easy to deal with. He came out one Sunday and s Fixed my leak quickly. He also corrected a problem left by a previous plumber. Mike knows his business well and his truck is equipped and organized. I highly recommend Mike to anyone who needs and wants good quality work at a fair price."

Drain Cleaning FAQs, answered by experts

Start by unscrewing the overflow valve, which is located on the wall of your tub between the floor drain and the tub spout. Gently insert a plumbing snake down into the pipe, move it back and forth, and pull it out. Remove any hair, debris, and soap scum that comes out with it. Repeat the process until the snake comes out clean, and then reinstall the cap on your overflow valve.

Unlike regular cleanings, snaking your sewer line should be done as needed. There’s no reason to snake your sewer line if you don’t have any noticeable issues, like slow drainage or plugged drains. You can add it to your regular sewer cleaning checklist as a prevention method (on the same 18- to 22-month schedule), but it’s not always necessary.

To unclog a plumbing vent, you first need to locate it. Look at your home's roofline. The plumbing vent will be a vertical pipe sticking straight up from the roof. Since this pipe runs all the way to the main drain underneath your house, you should also be able to find it in the attic.

If you want to avoid using a snake to unclog a drain, or if you don’t have one, try vinegar and baking soda. Pour 1 cup of baking soda down the drain, followed by 1 cup of white vinegar. Wait for 15 minutes, and then run hot water (but not boiling water) down the drain to see if the clog is clear. Repeat multiple times as needed.

Your clothes—and your washing machine—will send you a few signals if you’re overdue for cleaning your washing machine filter. If you notice a buildup of detergent residue on your clothes, your clothes don’t dry quickly or at all, or you’re noticing lint in the machine, it’s time to clean the filter.
