had one broken/cracked picture window and several other windows that had lost
their seal. They quoted us for the one picture window as well as replacing all
of our windows. They provided a reference list so we could see the windows
already installed and we were able to talk to a couple previous customers. We
had some additional questions that Josh was able to answer via email. Josh
always responded promptly. We signed a contract in April. Due to the time it
took for the windows to be manufactured, Visionaire schedule, and our vacation
plans we scheduled installation for the end of May. Tim and his crew arrived
promptly each morning of the install. They performed the install exactly as
they had described. They covered furniture as needed and cleaned up each day.
We love our windows and highly recommend Visionaire Windows.
Satisfied customers did not seem to be their aim, easy money did. He left parts of the project unfinished, statement windows with uneven trim, quoted one size window yet ordered a smaller one and then, to top it off, he left us with a hole in the wall for a new window and decided he was too busy to complete the job.
Unfinished Project:
We replaced a window with a door in our basement. Several feet of the wall was damaged in the process. Rudementry repairs were made but the wall was never finished and painted. While Tim asked about what color the wall was and if we had any paint left over, he did not finish the project. I've had to hire a painter.
Uneven Trim:
Of almost 30 windows we replaced, 3 window openings were replaced with very large picture windows. After installation, around every window the trim is unevenly showing around the opening. These are feature windows in our home and it's very noticeable. When I mentioned that I was not happy with this, I was told it was the nature of a retrofit. No solution or help was offered. Nothing. I had to ask several times to get an idea of what our options even were to fix this. I would have paid more for him to come back and do it right, or better yet, do it right the first time. But it wasn't simple I suppose so he made no effort whatsoever. Now, I'm going to have to pay a carpenter to redo the sills.
Bait and Switch:
We wanted to enlarge a window opening in our basement. We specified and were quoted a certain size window. However, in an effort to avoid cutting into the concrete wall to enlarge the opening, he ordered a smaller size window without even asking us. Although the need to cut concrete was apparent all along, I guess after quoting the window size we asked for, he decided that it would be too hard. He tried to say the quote was just an estimate of the size of the window... I thought estimates were of prices? Wow. After addressing this and listening to his spiel on how the smaller window was just a big misunderstanding, I actually felt sorry for him. I tried to figure out a way to use the smaller custom window he'd ordered and still be happy with a smaller opening. I decided that if he would lower the window so that it would at least meet egress, I would accept the smaller window. This still meant cutting into concrete. He continued to hem and haw and carry own about how big of deal it was to cut into concrete. In another effort to just get the project done, I found someone with a diamond saw that could cut into the wall. Then Tim could install the window as normal. After presenting what I thought was a more than fair solution, he told us that he was actually too busy to coordinate the project and perhaps our concrete cutting friend also had friends that could install the window. He would just sell us the window. I thought he was a window installer? Now I have to find another window installer because the one we had just spent $30,000 was too busy for us.
Uninformative and not forthcoming:
A lot of our issues could have potential been avoided if Tim had tried to offer us solutions suitable to our desires (as opposed to the ones that just made him easy money) and had helped us understand our options. Some examples: I asked for french casement windows for some openings. Instead of trying to meet that desire, he said only high end companies make those products. For our botched picture windows, if we had been informed that the trim would have been so uneven with a retrofit, I would have paid to totally rip out and replace these statement windows so they would look proper. If he had been forthcoming about his hesitancy to cut into concrete we wouldn't have a hole in our previously finished basement wall that needs immediate attention.
We have been remodeling our home for over a year now and have worked with numerous suppliers and providers. All of them have been fantastic - except Tim from Visionaire Windows. He started off well and did a good job on many of the windows. But as issues and complications arose, he could have easily created a win-win situation many times over. Instead he choose to be unhelpful and eventually walk away. This review will not surprise him because I tried to address everything in person and give him the opportunity to fix things.
I don't generally write reviews but this experience made it impossible not to. If you have any questions, I will be more than happy to explain anything or answer questions. I'm glad that sites like this are available so that consumers can make informed choices.
"We want to start by saying that we appreciate the opportunity to work with [Member name removed] and the trust she showed in us to complete the project while they were out of the country for several months. It is unfortunate that you feel this way [Member name removed]. After reading your complaints, we feel that the most transparent way to address these issues would be to have an unbiased expert in the field of fenestration, agreeable to both of us, come out and evaluate the project, the contract and any emails relating to the project. They would be able to give an expert opinion and evaluate your concerns to determine whether we held up our end of the contract documents or if these are simply invalid complaints. We at Visionaire Windows are about transparency and clarity in communicating to our customers and try to make sure that they are informed both in conversation and detailed contract description of both product and the install technique. We are more than willing to put $500 toward the services of a mediator in order to show our willingness to work this issue out. If you are unwilling to agree to this simple mediation, then your complaints are obviously not valid and our challenge to you would be to remove your comment."
