We recently had a bonus room turned into a bedroom with a bathroom and closet. Michael was quick to provide a full estimate. After we agreed to move forward we never saw him at the job site. He relies heavily on his various crews to do the work with zero over site. They text him pictures as the job progresses. Any issues we had were difficult to resolve due to the fact that he never came to put eyes on the work. His painters, tile installer and over all project lead man are great to work with and they do fabulous work. His plumbers are unprofessional and do a horrible job. The biggest issue we had was after the job was done and $24,000 had been paid Michael starts nickel and diming us for $500. His crew installed an over sized door for the bathroom which completely blocked the toilet. After I told him it did not work for the room he said it was fine and that he had done 100 barhrooms like that. I wasn’t satisfied so I asked him to put two 18” doors in. He said they would be $140. After they were installed (2 weeks later) and all the crews were gone he texts me and says we owe $500 for the doors. He said it was for labor and hardware. I agreed to pay for the doors and the paint and hardware but I felt he should eat the labor due to the fact that his crew installed an incorrect door and because I am the customer and was not satisfied. He disagreed. I paid him but will NEVER recommend him
Response from Hailey's Home Services
"I am sorry that this customer felt this way to write a review like this. Especially, considering this is the only problem he had on the entire job that consisted of so much work. First, I would like to mention that I was at the job on multiple occasions and consistently. I also have a main guy that is on the job almost everyday if not everyday. The only guys that I relied on besides my everyday workers are the HVAC, Plumbing and Electrical. It is unfortunate that he had problems with the plumbing company. I have and will address again with the owner his concerns. Second, the reviewers wife requested to change from a barn style door (they were to provide the door and hardware) to a regular bathroom door. She also changed a regular closet door to a pocket door. I charged them for the new bathroom door (mat only since I was only originally providing labor to install a barn door) for the bathroom and painting that door. I didn’t charge them any more for labor. I also didn’t charge them for changing from a regular closet door to a pocket door even though a pocket door requires more material and labor to install including different framing at the beginning of the job. At the end of the job, he notifies me that the bathroom door won’t work due to it blocking full access to the toilet when open. It would require them to go into the bathroom and close behind them to access the full toilet area. I have built multiple bathrooms including my own house where a door opening into a bathroom would hinder complete access to the open toilet area. This is not something I could have foreseen as an issue for this particular customer ahead of time. I offered to only charge him my overall cost for changing out the door. I believe that this was a very fair solution for something that was not necessarily my fault and more of a personal opinion change. I always try to make my customers happy in the end and believe the end result was what the customer was expecting when they hired my company."

Michael came out and took measurements and provided an estimate much lower than two other bids. His workers were on site and completed the work in 2 days and then Michael came out and inspected it. Turned out better than I had even imagined it looking. We still enjoy it three years later.

1. The BIG problem was this. He incorrectly assumed he would be able to put in a studer vent for a sink in the middle of the basement. We ended up having to dig up the floor and run the drain pipe over to the existing vent pipe ($1200 extra beyond quote for 30' trench). They completed that and then the concrete was laid over the trench. If he knew what he was doing he would have realized he needed to
A) Let the concrete dry properly - there's a specific moisture reading you can take if you have the correct tool
B) Seal it with a special sealer to stop any moisture coming up. The rest of the floor is fine because it's been there...
C) Use a special high bonding glue to hold it down properly.
He did not do the above and laid engineered hardwood on the floor including over where the trench was dig and fixed. The glue did not hold properly and it felt spongy when you walked on it. I complained and the guy came out on two occasions to fix and it was not resolved. Within 3 months we started noticing water spots on the wood that was over where the trench had been dug. I called again and they came over and ripped it up. There was mold underneath where the moisture had been coming up through the uncured concrete. Crap!! Hailey said this was not his fault and he could not control the moisture coming up through the concrete. we argued with him and he refused to resolve it under his guarantee.
At this point we did not trust him. We sort advice from some professional hardware installers and found out the above made points on how it should have been done. Cost us $700 to have resolved and it's been fine since.
2. Part of the deal was a working gas connection for some log's we installed. When we went to hook up the log's we found the gas connection was not hooked into the house gas supply - he gave a lame excuse that he was planning to hook up later.
3. A couple of months after they left we had a hotwater heater go out (upstairs - not Hailey's deal) - I went to shut off the water and the main shutoff no longer worked! It worked fine before his guys did the basement and how it's messed up. It's abit of a problem when you can't shut off the water supply to the house. I called Hailey - he said he would call his plumber - never heard from him..
4. The way he quotes work leaves is mis-leading. He leaves just enough wiggle room to figure out ways to charge you more when the occasions arises.
5. His commitment to time was lacking. He would promise to show up and then not be there and call later with excuses - this was frustrating...
