Using an ice and water shield underlayment under a metal roof is a good way to protect the roof and your home from damage in colder climates that see a lot of winter weather. Traditional underlayment isn’t effective underneath a metal roof, though, so be sure to install one specifically made for metal roofs to get the best protection.

Copper roof strips can last for 20 to 30 years or more if properly installed—in many cases, they may outlast your roof. Inspect your roof annually to ensure copper roof strips remain properly adhered and undamaged, and repair any loose or lifted strips. With very little upkeep, copper roof strips can protect your roof for decades to come.
