Stephan Bass or SC Bass Construction LLC

Initial contact and communication was good as was the written proposal.  Mr. Bass seemed like a nice and trustworthy person, which was backed up by his Angie's List scores.  He told me that the job should take 3 days..
The day before we were to start he called and said that the company that was making the rafters was running a day late and we need to push the install back a day.  I was pleased to get this call in advance.
Once Mr. Bass and his 2 helpers showed up on-site they spent the next 3 days (8 hours a day) putting up and anchoring headers on top of the existing stone walls, and it was agonizing to watch.  At one point the neighborhood "crack head" came up to me and said "those guys have no idea what they are doing".. from a crack head!
On day 4 a new 2-man crew showed up without Mr. Bass and cut off everything that he and his crew had done in the past three days.  Then in 1 day they basically framed the entire structure.  They were great and very easy to deal with, unlike the other crew that I had to inform Mr. Bass was leaving trash (food wrappers) in my yard after they left.
After a few days this second crew had my garage framed up and the roof on, then one of the origonal guys returned to do some finish work.  After lecturing me (a furniture designer) about how knowledgeable he was as a "union carpenter" he proceeded to do some of the sloppiest work I've ever seen.  Mr. Bass showed up the next day expecting to get paid and thinking that all the work was done.  When I showed him all the things that needed to be fix he said that he would send the same guy that had messed it all up. 
The following day the same guy showed up and did an even sloppier job.  When Mr. Bass returned I paid him in hopes that they would just go away, even though work still needed to be finished.  That is just want happened.
4 weeks after the last time Mr. Bass and his crew was at our house he called and said that he left some things in our basement that he needed.  I told him I would be glad to see him because nobody ever came back and finished the work we talked about. 
4 weeks later (and now 2 months after the last time Mr. Bass was at my house) he called again and said he needed that stuff from my basement.  I reminded him that he still had work to finish and that I would not let him in my basement until it was completed.  That was 2 weeks ago and I've not heard from him again, nor do I want to.
Our "3 day job" took more like 9 and I would give him a "F" except that second crew did a good (not great) job on the roof and it made my structure a functioning garage.  It's also worth noting that of the 4 bids we got Mr. Bass was $1,500 lower than all the other contractors.  Now we know why.

Stephan arrived promptly to give us out estimate and even suggested changes to our front porch steps that saved us several hundred dollars.  When his schedule changed he called us 24 hours in advance to let us know and to reschedule.  He did the work quickly and cleaned up his mess - we actually had to tell him he did not need to sweep the driveway!  (We just blew the sawdust off.)  He did not charge us extra when the sewer repair pipe cracked further and he had to return to the store to buy another piece.   We just bought foreclosure and will be contacting him first for bids on things that need repairs!

He is extremely pleasant, ethical, and very quick at what he does. He is prompt and competent. He is everything a small business man should be.

Stephan came out, looked my project, offered good advice, was very patient and professional.  The price he quoted me for the work was was only about $3000.00 off from my estimate.  I expected it to be more. In the end the friend of a friend offered me a deal and I took it.

I got him off Angie's List because they were highly rated. I paid over $6,000 to start the job and get supplies. He barely bought any supplies and stopped working because he said he needed more money. He said he had used the money to pay all the sub contractors. They started on April 1st and said it would only take 4 weeks. It is now May 17th and the work is only halfway done. He gave me a lot of excuses about why the work wasn't being done. He said he needed more money from the insurance company to finish the job. The contract says that he must put hardwood floors throughout the first floor except the bedroom, but he claims now that he's only going to put in carpet. I gave him a key to my house and demanded it back but he won't give it back. I had to change the locks to my house. Now I have to hire another company to finish the work that I paid him to do.

He was very professional and timely. He knew what he was doing. He offered advice.

I am truly impressed! My attic stairs broke and I tried a home depot do-it-yourselfer but that didn't work. I contacted this company and they actually showed up the very next day! The quote provided over the phone remained the same even though I do not believe the work did! I actually created a bigger problem, in my mind anyway! :-) I would definitely recommend this company. I highly recommend Stephan Bass (SC Bass Construction) for your Handyman needs!  EXCEPTIONAL CUSTOMER SERVICE!  I had an extremely minor repair request because I recently had to fire my Property Manager & am now managing my property remotely.  So, I needed a trustworthy & reliable Handyman; initially for something as minor as a beeping/faulty smoke detector, but I told him that I anticipate additional projects in the near future.  Tenant was not capable of assessing problem or repair/replacement...Stephan assessed the problem (correctly) over the phone (said the battery was probably installed incorrectly - even though my Tenant said she replaced the battery recently); gave a reasonable estimate over the phone (didn't try to upsell or unnecessarily repair/replace item); said he was nearby the location of my property; stopped by at the Tenant's convenience to assess the situation; was courteous to my Tenant, & it turns out, he was right - the smoke detector was only beeping because the battery had been installed incorrectly by both the Property Manager & the Tenant!  He said it was absolutely no trouble & refused to charge me for such a minor thing...he would not even accept my offer of a trip charge b/c he was nearby.  Good customer service, and trustworthy, reliable workmanship of this level are rare these days!   I will definitely be calling on Stephan Bass for my Handyman needs!  Thanks again, Stephan!

My husband was on active duty.  My honey-do list was growing.  I called Mr. Bass and he was able to come out the next day.  I needed a pet door installed through a wall leading to the garage and a way to keep the cat contained once in the garage.  Mr. Bass installed the door, created a walkway through tunnel since it was a little too short for opening.  He also designed and built a wooden enclosure to keep the cat from getting loose in the garage.  Mr. Bass also repaired numerous doors in our house that didn't close properly.  He hung three ceiling racks in my garage and a set of curtain rods.  I also wanted a frame around a plain mirror in our bathroom.  He stained and framed it.   I cannot say enough about how friendly and professional he is!  My three year old followed him everywhere.  His work ethic is amazing.  I highly recommend Stephan Bass and will definitely be calling him again!

On 23 Jan, I contacted Stephan Bass for help with repairing the broken upper (fixed) sash of a single-hung window in my master bathroom. Stephan came out almost immediately, assessed my problem, and referred me to one of his subcontractors, Derrius Thomas. I contacted "Dee" shortly thereafter and on 30 Jan, my window was measured for replacement. He gave me a cost estimate and an expected installation date for the repair. I was called twice with updates regarding the date and time I could expect the window to be repaired. On 8 Feb, in less than an hour, Dee installed my replacement sash.

He was wonderful. This was hard, arduous work pulling up tiles etc.. but he was here everyday and worked late. I would recommend him to anyone and will use him again if need be.

Unbelievably talented in what he does. Has lots of pictures of previous jobs which gives you ideas for your project. From start to finish he was the ultimate professional and his work continues to get ohhs and ahs.
