"Absolutely beautiful. I called John on Wednesday for a quote, he showed up on Thursday to do measurements of the property and on Friday morning I received his quote via email. I accepted the quote and Sunday morning they began work and Monday afternoon it was finished. Very happy, I plan to use him again in the spring for my next home project."

"(TL/DR: We are happy with the work Cory did, and I would recommend him for your landscaping needs.) The theme here is "all's well that ends well." Cory is one of the nicest guys you will ever meet, and he's very agreeable to work with. He and his crew work remarkably quickly, too, and the quality of work is very good. The job was not without its hiccups, though. Cory is not a proactive communicator, and that caused us some grief along the way. Without boring you with every detail, Cory and his crew got to work on Day 1, and by the end of Day 2, they had built an entire retaining wall on a line different from the one we'd talked about. He told me he had lain the foundation on Day 1 and, when he didn't hear from me, assumed it was correct and moved on to building the wall on Day 2. Problem is, he didn't inform me that I needed to review his Day 1 work (I never imagined that he would do the work differently than what we talked about when he met me for the initial estimate), or that he would interpret no word from me as acceptance of his work. The result was that he had to deconstruct the wall and then rebuild it along the correct line, which I'm sure was a lot of work, but he did it and did so cheerfully. This kerfuffle was unfortunately repeated, in essence, with the landscape stairs--building, followed by no word from him, followed by silence from me, followed by a discrepancy between what he built and what I wanted. This was especially frustrating, because, after the wall incident, he said he would take photos of the unfinished stairs and send them to me for approval before completing them. But, all's well that ends well: he and I met to discuss the issue, and then he and his crew redid the stairs to my satisfaction. To sum up, my experience with Cory is that he will make judgment calls, build, and hope it works out right rather than consulting you to see what you want and doing it that way (or telling you it can't be done that way for a particular reason). If you have a drawn plan that Cory can refer to, you may not have these issues, and perhaps I should have insisted on drawing him a plan when he didn't insist on having one before beginning work. Or, if you don't work during the day, you could oversee the work and give feedback as it's happening to prevent any issues from arising. But don't expect Cory to be proactive about communication. So, after all that, do I regret getting Cory to do the work? Absolutely not. He got it done quickly, did it well, did it for an excellent price, and went the extra mile to make sure we were happy. And we are. We are very excited about the way things turned out, and we can't wait to use the back yard space that Cory helped us create. I would absolutely recommend him."

"Amid one of the hottest days in August, Russell was very attentive in my questions and concerns laying out an additional turn around and resurfacing the driveway. The Crew were kind and professional working non-stop in the heat. Turning an old cracked up drive into a Great Looking Driveway. I'm very happy and would gladly recommend them, for your next project."

"Our new driveway is beautiful and the work was done correctly. Juan and his crew are very nice people. I had no worry about them being on my property for three days. My dog got loose and ran across the wet cement. Not only did they take out the paw prints, they caught the dog and put him in the fence! Such a great company!"

Asphalt Driveways questions, answered by experts

When planning asphalt paving in Fort Oglethorpe, consider the local climate and soil. The best installation months are April-May and September-October. The area’s predominant clay soil requires robust base preparation and proper drainage to prevent settling. Also, check with Catoosa County for any permit or setback requirements and be aware of potential HOA restrictions in your neighborhood before beginning your project.

Helpful?

You can safely handle minor issues by sealing cracks under 1/4 inch and cleaning debris. For safety in Fort Oglethorpe, avoid DIY repairs when temperatures are above 85°F, as the asphalt gets too soft. Winter work should only happen when it's consistently above 50°F. Always be mindful of how the area's clay soil can affect your driveway's stability before starting any work.

Helpful?

Yes, combining an asphalt paving project with other upgrades can be smart. In Fort Oglethorpe, it's crucial to pair paving with drainage improvements due to the area's clay soil and rainfall. You can also save by bundling projects like landscaping or concrete work, as many local contractors offer package deals. Completing any underground utility work beforehand prevents damage to your new asphalt surface.

Helpful?

The most common mistakes with asphalt paving in Fort Oglethorpe involve ignoring local conditions. This includes failing to properly prepare the expansive clay soil with a thick base and not planning for adequate drainage to handle heavy rainfall. Other errors are poor seasonal timing, like paving in extreme summer heat, and not verifying that your contractor has experience with local soil conditions.

Helpful?

Your home’s layout can complicate an asphalt paving project in GA if you have a steep driveway, which is common in the area's hilly terrain. Other red flags include signs of poor drainage like standing water, existing foundation cracks, or mature trees with large root systems near the paving area. Narrow property access can also limit the type of equipment a contractor can use.
