"very kind of you to take the time to share your experience. So glad to know all the issues are in fact resolved. The rains we just had certainly put the system to the test."
I hired Burt Young, owner of Landscape Innovations since 1990, to regrade and install grass for my entire lawn of approximately 10,000 square feet. This included creating a slope away from the house foundation and the roll and blend of the contours of the lawn to improve both drainage and visual appearances. My lawn was the eye sore of the neighborhood. What grass I had was overgrown with weeds, rain had eroded the front of the lawn down to the red clay, and a portion of the lawn sloped right into the house which caused problems during heavy rainstorms. I had a couple of landscaping companies provide estimates. The high end estimate recommended installing drainage and a sprinkler system. Burt?s estimate was $7,000 less than this estimate and included grading the lawn away from the house to provide natural drainage and providing me a watering regimen to ensure that the grass became properly rooted. At my request Mr. Young showed me some of his other projects within the neighborhood and after seeing those results I hired him. I gave little guidance other than the grand scheme of things and relied on Mr. Young?s experience to develop the lawn. To this end Mr. Young exceeded my expectations. Several things impressed me with this project. First, Mr. Young personally worked on my lawn all day, each day, all week (I?ve never seen an owner of a Company do that before). Any unforeseen issues were discussed and resolved immediately to my satisfaction. The final cost was $150 over the estimate due to those unforeseen issues (e.g., three underground stumps were uncovered during the grading and had to be removed). The grading was exceptional, not only eliminating the water running into the house?s foundation, but providing beautiful contours. This involved moving tons of dirt from around the lawn; no dirt had to be purchased and brought in. The end result is an exceptionally beautiful lawn and one that I am very proud to have. Without any reservation I would refer people to Mr. Burt Young for their landscaping needs.
"Against my better judgement,Ii installed Zoysia sod where i thought it would have difficulty growing. That was what what the customer wanted and after explaining why it was a bad idea, she insisted. My default is the customer is always right. Then when the grass died, i returned and installed a french drain and new sod. That sod also died, but she insisted it was not the extreme shade. She insisted it was poor drainage even thought there was 18" of elevation change in a 40' long area. I returned to the job with more drain pipe and more sod one more time with hopes of finally making the customer happy with our work. Impossible, unrealistic expectations. I tried 3 times."
"Thank you sir. It's a pleasure to do business with customers like you. Friendly, informed, realistic expectations, appreciation for quality workmanship, and willingness to pay a fair, market price for our services are qualities that can be difficult to find. Thanks for the kind words and taking the time to share. Burt."
