A guy came to my door one evening, rang the doorbell and gave me a card. He said a neighbor was a regular customer and offered to do my house the next day for $225. I agreed and when he returned he did my house and I let him do my deck for an additional $250. He mentioned several times that he pulled a 22 foot trailer which I guess he thinks makes him seem more legitimate. I never saw the trailer. He washed the house by spraying on bleach/water/soap solution and then waiting and rinsing with water. I wanted my deck stained after cleaning and he wanted to do that also. He gave me a price but I chose a legitimate painting contractor who does work for local builders. I did not tell Mr Hobbs because I thought he would do a better job on the deck if he thought he might get to apply the stain. He leaves his empty bleach bottles, boxes and dish detergent bottles strewn about the yard. Between the house and deck work he left his equipment in the yard, spray wand on the deck and hose attached. It took him about an hour to do my house and two hours to do my deck. He was supposed to return and finish the deck at 7:30 am the following day but showed up just before 10 am and sits in his older Tahoe and talks on his phone. He kept pestering me about staining my deck for which he wanted $1300. I told him I had his card and would call him if I decided to use him. I was glad to have him leave my property. I watched him the next day doing other houses in the neighborhood and talked with a couple of his clients. They were satisfied with his work but I doubt they knew how quickly he finished. I checked the BBB and noticed he had had a couple of complaints and I decided to join Angie's List to avoid similar situations in the future . The painting contractor gave me an estimate to stain my deck that was about half what Mr Hobbs had wanted. Then last night my doorbell rang and Mr Hobbs was there and asked if I had decided on his staining offer. I told him I had chosen someone else and he started questioning my judgement and ran down the quality of work I would get. He wanted to know the price I would pay and when I refused to tell him he said "well at least he took $500 from me for about three hours of work". I think I learned a lesson and I seriously doubt I will do business with anyone with out checking them out first. Update 11/21/13 Noticed after having deck stained that Mr Hobbs damaged numerous boards where he used too much force and curled up grain and splintered surface of boards. I have also found places on the back of my house that he missed washing.

First, whatever you do....do not use this guy to do anything in or outside your home!! He is such a fraud it is actually comical. He a bumbling fast talking idiot who knows nothing about the profession he is in. He goes door to door passing out his business cards for "Troy Hobbs Pressure Washing & More". Along with pressure washing, he claims to do privacy fences, carpeting, painting, etc. Considering I have been wanting to get my house pressure washed for a couple weeks and I work nights and dont have the time to do myself, I decided to take him up on his offer of $200 to pressure wash my entire 2 story house, top to bottom, squeaky clean after I saw the work he had done on my neighbors house a couple days earlier. He will claim to have a 50 foot wand (attachment to the hose which will allow him to reach second story gutters and what not), a big trailer with his own water and other supplies. He will claim that he has been doing this for several years and he will have your house done in 2 hours. Well, he showed up the next day with a typical pressure washer on wheels with a standard 4 foot wand, with no trailer, no hose, and 7 gallons of bleach. He hooked up to my water faucet, used my hose, and went to work. I was so dumbfounded that I really had to watch this idiot to see what he would do. An hour and a half later he was done and I have to admit, 95% of the house was just as clean as can be, but he used straight bleach as a soaking mechanism on the house and after letting it sit, he would rinse. Obviously, this is not good for your lawn, plants, children, & pets. He will tell you he cant tell you what he uses to clean the house but when there are 7 empty buckets of bleach laying in your yard along with some dawn detergent....go figure...he even threw them in my trashcan. Being somewhat surprised how quick he did the job, I gave him a little $15 tip and sent him on his way still flabbergasted at the stupidity of this guy. I dont happen to have any children, pets, or plants right underneath the roof line so I didnt sweat the bleach too much. I happened to notice the next day that there was still some mildew and black mold along my second story roof above a screened in back porch we have on the back side of the house. I called him and asked him if he didnt mind swinging by (considering I gave him a little tip) with a ladder or his "50 foot" wand and touch it up for me because the reason the mold was still there is because he couldnt get enough pressure from the ground to eliminate it with his little 4 foot wand. He said that I told him the day before that I was satisfied with the job, he doesnt get on ladders, that he actually used an extension and admitted to using straight bleach and he still couldnt get it off. He said he wasnt a "miracle worker" and that the mildew and black stuff on that 2nd story gutter above my back porch was tar from the roof and mildew which was baked in by the sun. Seriously....hes an idiot. I decided to part ways and let it go as I wont be using him again. To add to this story, my neighbors flagged me down yesterday complaining about him and how he gave them the same story, showed up with the same stuff and actually didnt rinse the house well enough so there were bleach run marks all over their siding. My neighbor had to get his own pressure washer out and rinse it again himself. Nevertheless, if you want to hire a guy who lies about the equipment that he has, that will jeopardize the health of your lawn, plants, children, & pets, and who has absolutely no clue about what he is doing.....then be my guest and use him!! However, if you do, you will be sorry!!
