I needed the inspection for my own reassurance and not as proof for any home sale or insurance purposes. So, it was not as critical to have anything in writing. But, I like to keep records of everything dealing with my property.
The engineer was good at returning my call and setting up an appointment. He arrived on time and took the time to hear my concerns as we walked around the house. I have two large trees growing very close to my house and a large root running under
the side of my foundation. The root actually lifted up a large concrete slab that was there as a splashguard for the gutter. I was concerned about any possible structural damage done underneath my crawlspace, plumbing or sewer lines. I was considering having it cut down.
He spent about 2 hours doing his inspection under my very tight crawlspace, which I describe as a “belly crawl.” He explained his findings and didn’t find any damage done by the tree root and shared with me that the tree must have a water source under the house since it is growing in that direction. They should just include the report in the inspection fee.
