Hicks and Sons Junk Removal

We engaged Hicks and Sons for removal in March 2019. They were very responsive when we were looking for quotes. The service was affordable for a complicated job clearing out two apartments. They were prompt and friendly and did a fantastic job!

I am disappointed in “junk” removal service by Hicks and Sons Junk Removal. While the price was in range of what appears to be industry standard, the service was not professional in my opinion. The workers arrived in a pick-up truck with a rented trailer attached. While the removal of the furniture was done in a timely manner, in the process of removing the items, my wall was damaged, the wooden floor in the living area was scratched, mud was tracked into the house and carpet, and debris was left in the driveway. I would not use the company again and would not recommend them.

The team, as before, arrived timely, was courteous and did a great job loading off the stuff.

I scheduled an 8am appointment, telling them that they couldn't come past 8:45. So, they showed up at 8:50am. Loading the stuff onto the truck took about 3 minutes. I was told on the phone that the price would be between $80-120, depending on the amount and the weight. Of course, even though the amount was small, they wanted the full $120. After complaining, they dropped to $100. In addition, they did not honor the 20% discount offered by booking on-line. I would not recommend this company, based on the tardiness, the pricing and the false advertising.

First, let me say that the guys who came to pick up the debris on the second day where courteous and cleaned up the mess. Now... Someone came out the previous day to look and give me a price (since I had already disclosed that the bagsters where overfull.) He quoted $350 to remove both, which seemed like a good price; it's their standard bagster price x2... he said even though they where overfull, they could remove them for the standard price. I assumed that meant he felt some of the items in them had value... steel tub, toilet, lots of copper pipe, etc. The guys came the next day to pick up the stuff. They arrived on time and began loading. About half way through the loading process, they asked me to come outside; they asked how much I was quoted... a series of phone calls later, they offered to do it for $600 (down from their first number of $700... but still nearly double what they quoted after looking at what I had.) At this point, my stuff was half loaded and I didn't have an alternate plan, since I was given a price after they looked at what I had... so I didn't have a good option, other than agree to the $600. I don't feel like $600 was an unreasonable number, but the experience was VERY BAD. When they came out the first day to look, they should have given me an honest number... and when they came the next day to load it, they should have adjusted their number as soon as they saw it, not 40 minutes into the loading process. I don't know if it was deliberate, sloppy, or incompetent, but either way, it was a bate-and-switch.

It was my understanding that items would be recycled and reused. I had Styrofoam in one space, old appliances in another. When I checked on the job, I saw them just lob stuff in the truck. I asked if they would be recycled or passed along and was told it was "too much trouble to sort them out." I had them sorted!! So I am not clear on whether my expectations were too high, or they did not do as they promised.

The two guys were fantastic. It was a lot of heavy items. We would never have been able to get everything out. They were very professional and wound use them again.

Fabulous.  The guys were on time and friendly.  They were true pros as they had both pieces of furniture down the stairs, out the door and were finished within 5 minutes.  It would have taken us 5 minutes to struggle to get just 1 piece out alone!!!

I called to schedule a time and they were very responsive. They gave me an upfront price and said I would get a rolloff dumpster like you see at construction sites and that they would load the stuff up themselves. This seemed like a great deal so I scheduled a time for them to come out. They came out on time and three people showed up. However, they came with a fairly small trailer pulled by an SUV. The trailer was also in very poor condition. I showed them what needed to be hauled away and they told me that not all of it could be taken. I asked them to try to get as much as they could because it appeared to me that it could. It took them about 30-45 minutes to load up the trailer and it was clear to me that they were being very lazy and was not trying to get all the stuff. They picked the lightest stuff they could find and did not attempt to pack down the trailer (probably because the small SUV would not be able to haul it). When they were done, they said they could not get all of it even though there was plenty of room because the trailer was not filled. It could have been done if they gave a little more effort. I feel as if I got ripped off and that now I have to hire someone else to get the rest of the stuff. Next time I will just do it myself. It appears to me that owners value their customers (great response time) but their workers care very little (poor workmanship).

Fantastic. These two guys picked up the tv like it was nothing and put it on the truck. They were highly professional and very polite. Could not have gone better. Very impressed.

I call on this company on Tuesday, they came that Thursday, give me a quote and the truck here on Friday
with crew of three, It only took them about hour to clean it up.
