I found Amy Phillips on Angie's List and also through another painter's recommendation. We needed someone who could match complex paint work that had worn over time, especially around the knobs and in areas where water would touch the paint. This wasn't a simple job of applying one-coat of paint; the cabinet doors and drawers had a base coat, a second, light antiquing coat and fine stenciling around certain features of the woodwork.
Amy made an initial visit to determine the extent of the painting and offered two choices, try to match the existing paint color and highlights, or repaint the entire kitchen and master bath. We both agreed that trying to match would be difficult, but worth trying. She made about five trips to work on the job and was very careful to explain what she was going to do before starting each day.
We really didn't think she would be able to match certain cabinet doors due to aging over about 10 years and because of the complexity of the original paint. However, we look at everything she did and now we have a hard time remembering which ones she worked on.
By recommending and taking this approach, Amy saved us several thousand dollars and major disruption of doing all cabinets/drawers in both rooms..
This is the second project we used Amy for and it was an excellent job. Amy has had a lot of experience in this specialty and her choice of colors and technique were professional.
