Nick was professional, knowledable and a great representative for DC Cheek. In fact such to those points that I called DC Cheek to let them know.
You want the BEST, you may pay alittle extra but you get the BEST. DC CHEEK
Looked up DC Cheek but there was not much info. They are very close to my home and I really wanted to establish a relationship with someone local to my new home so i gave these guys a try.
The Customer Service person was totally on the ball and got me an appointment with a service guy right away. She also offered me me their and quot;VIPand quot; maintenance program that would include the price service call and provide a 15% discount on parts plus do the routine maintenance and would qualify me a credit on my power bill from the local power Co-op. This all sounded like a fair deal so i signed up for the program.
The service guy arrived the same day and diagnosed my thermostat problem as failed wiring and also informed me that my fan motor was shot. He gave me estimates for four different options ranging from just the VIP service to replacing the the fan motor, replacing the wire from the thermostat to the unit, replacing the furnace ignition in one of the other units and a couple other items that didn't seem necessary. The prices ranged from about $320 for the VIP service to about $1500. I noticed that his estimates where not itemized to include the price of the parts but where broken out by individual jobs. Unfortunately, i was rushing in between confrence calls and didn't drill down on the lack of itemization and signed up for the work I knew needed to be done all for a price including the maintenance for about $1300.00. This seemed a little high but I went for it.
The service guy informed me that they would have to schedule for another day and requested payment for everything up front. I was only willing to pay for the maintenance program in advance which was a good call since he didn't let anyone at the office know to schedule the rest of the work.
I didn't hear back from the company that day so I called the next morning ad was informed by the Customer Service person that she had no idea that there was more work to be done. She was able to move the schedule around a bit and sent the same service guy back about an hour after I called.
The service came back with another guy so they could pull the wire and they got that done on about 10 minutes and the second guy left and the first guy was done in about an hour but said he was not the maintenance guy and that would be a separate call. He collected $1000 and took off. It seemed like maybe a thousand bucks for one hour of work and not many parts was not such a great deal but I let it slide since he did what he said he was going to do and I signed up for it.
The next day the maintenance guy showed up to do his work and part way through that he informed me that one of my condensation pumps was near failure and that he had one on his truck that he could install for $250.00. I was in my office and on-line when he informed me about this so I did a quick Google search for the pump and found that the most expensive pump listed was about $57.00. I told the guy what I found and he said his pump was different and showed me his $250 pump. What he had on his truck was a Diversitech ClearVu pump that I looked up on Amazon and bought for $47.00 and will install my self.
I feel pretty worked over on everything from DC Cheek now that i know they are willing to charge 5X the fair market value for parts. I contacted the Customer Service person and asked her to forward my concern to a manager to see if they where willing to do anything to adjust my bill. She got back to me yesterday morning and let me know that I would hear from one of the owners that day but no call and no e-mail.
There are a bunch of other service providers in the area and I will find someone else to work with in the future and will be much more vigilant in reviewing estimates and asking questions about them and all the costs associated with them.
My bad this time, shame on me but not again.
