Avoid Atlanta Pools at All Costs — 5 Years Later and Still Paying for Their Mistakes Let me be very clear: digging a hole and installing pool equipment is the easy part. Every pool company does that. The real challenge — and what separates professionals from amateurs — is everything that surrounds the pool. And in that, Atlanta Pools was absolutely the worst. We were promised 1,800 square feet of high-quality travertine decking. What we got instead was a complete disaster. The design was poor, and the installation was even worse — ultimately costing us thousands to correct. The water drainage system, which we paid extra for, was installed completely incorrectly. Every single drain was sloped uphill, which of course led to flooding all around the pool. We spent $32,000 on the travertine decking alone, and specifically asked the owner, Miki, to make sure a proper concrete foundation was laid. He assured us it wasn’t needed — and we trusted him. As a result, the entire 1,800 square feet of decking cracked, lifted, became uneven, and had to be completely replaced. The foundation was never there, and it failed exactly the way any experienced contractor would expect. To make matters worse, the materials used for the drainage were bottom-of-the-barrel — cheap plastic piping from Home Depot — not what you expect for a project of this scale and cost. We reached out to Atlanta Pools repeatedly for help — not even asking for free repairs, just looking for guidance and willing to pay. We were ignored. No callbacks. No replies. Just silence. Let me be very clear: we’re not writing this review to get anything in return. We’ve already spent the money to replace the entire decking, drainage, and piping — at great cost. We are writing this to warn others and hopefully save someone else from the same financial and emotional frustration. Multiple professionals since then have reviewed their work and confirmed: this was substandard in every way — poor workmanship, bad design, and cheap materials. If you’re considering Atlanta Pools, don’t. The price might look good up front, but you’ll be paying for their mistakes long after they’ve moved on. Just like we are.

The entire process of finding a company to install a pool in Cumming, Georgia wasnt easy.  We recently moved here from Illinois and were using Angie's List primarily for our resources.  We have no family here and no friends for advice.  I found Atlanta Pools because they have a sign advertising their service on a billboard near our home.  We called several pool installers and found them unwilling to work with us at all.  One guy on Angie's list wanted $1600 to do a rough drawing for housing association approval upfront.  He wouldnt even come out and talk with us without money.  Another place had us calling and calling and kept putting us off.  We couldnt talk to the "right person" to give us a quote because he was always "out in the field."  Time was passing and we had to get it started.Mickey Layman responded immediately to my every concern from start to finish.  He came out to my home, checked my property, gave us suggestions, and responded with a quote within days.  His staff - especally Laurie - in the office answered every question I had, took care of ALL my requests for the Housing Association and even filled out the forms for me!  They applied for the permits the day after we signed a contract and started construction within a week.  They have been absolutely wonderful.  Atlanta Pools has an office, with REAL pools and REAL people working there.  Mickey has been out to my house checking on every phase of the pool construction and makes sure everything is up to his high standards.  If it is not, HE takes care of it.  He works with Landscapers and Fencing, and handles the project from start to finish.  We are absolutely satisfied with Atlanta Pools.
