They called me about an hour after I left (they said the whole thing would take 90 minutes-- it took 2 1/2 hours) and told me that 2 of my tires needed to be replaced "because they were old" and the 1 that needed to be repaired couldn't be because the problem was on the side, and I needed an alignment. I questioned them because all 4 of my tires were replaced 15 months ago (she told me "oh, no, two of these tires are not new"), then I questioned the one that "couldn't be repaired" because I heard them tell two other customers the same thing in the 20 minutes I sat in their lobby waiting to be picked up. In fact, I told my friend, "they are going to tell me they can't fix my tire-- I just heard them tell two other people... 50% of tires cannot be unable to be repaired in 20 minutes time." Finally, I said "just rotate them, balance them the best you can, and I will take it to the place where I got the tires."
When I got there, my car was in the parking lot to be picked up. The tire they "couldn't repair" was almost flat and the cap for the air valve was missing. So, I go in to inquire if possibly someone has been robbing of them of all their available air for tires as my tire wasn't flat when I got there and were people stealing the caps for air valves because ironically, mine was missing... the guy at the desk was actually very nice and went outside with us and filled my tire with air and got a cap for, not only that, tire but also a tire that was previously missing a cap. (thus my "B" rating on responsiveness) He said that my tire couldn't be fixed because I used "Fix a Flat" on my tire and they couldn't patch it because of that.
When we began to question him about the back tires, he made it very clear that they were okay, yes, they had additional wear because they were on the front of the car before the rotation. However, when we asked why the other person told us that both back tires needed replacing, he said that there was a place on one of the back tires that "could blow at any moment if I ran over something." They also provided me with a "recommended services quote" of $604 which included 3 new tires and an alignment for $85. My total bill was $69 ($42 of which was the wiper blades- $18/ea and a $6 fee to put them on ... I shudder to think what they cost at Auto Zone who would have sweetly offered to change them for me) However, the oil change was a good deal. That would be because the shop next door is offering $20 oil changes.
I promptly took my car to White's Automotive (where I bought the tires on 4/1/2014) They said that I did, in fact, need an alignment which had caused more than normal wear on my tires (I had traveled 20,000 miles in a year with only one rotation) However, they said that I had at least another 6,000 miles on the "about to blow out" tire. They plugged the tire that needed to be fixed, did an alignment and I walked out with a bill for $63. (that is 10 times less than I would have walked out of Firestone) I also talked through with them that I travel for work, and I didn't want to be unsafe. They assured me that I was okay, but they would double check it at my next oil change.
I have never posted on a website like this before, but I do read reviews because there are many things that I don't know about that require service (cars being one... ) I am a single mother with a son in college that works very hard. It is disheartening to me that people would scare people to make a bloody buck.
