Short version: My wife regrets having the job done in the first place, and wishes our kitchen just looked the way it did before Paintworks made a mess of it. Longer version: Dale Kingsley functions as a estimator and salesman, not a contractor. So, though Dale is generally professional and responsive, he does not take responsibility for the results. The quality of Paintworks' results, therefore, depends on the skills of whatever subcontractor Dale hires for a particular job. The subcontractor he hired for our kitchen cabinet painting and tile job should never have been hired, because he and his revolving crew of unskilled laborers had no idea what they were doing. The sub had to redo our simple job several times -- and Paintworks never got it right. Among other problems, Paintworks' painting was wildly inconsistent. After their first attempt, each kitchen cabinet door looked different than the cabinet door next to it. Now, after several attempts to rework the cabinets, our cabinets still look like a DIY project gone wrong. Similarly, the tile Paintworks installed includes undesired "waves," up and down along the length of the kitchen walls. Unfortunately, we did not pay DIY prices for the work. Whenever there were problems with the job -- which Paintworks readily and repeatedly admitted -- Dale did nothing more than send the same crew of unskilled laborers back to try again. We ultimately just paid Paintworks the full contract amount to stop having to deal with them and the mess they made. (I later had to hire a handyman to come in and help me fix the things that could be fixed.) We will certainly never use Paintworks again, and would advise against using Paintworks unless the subcontractor who will actually perform the work is identified and his or her personal references separately checked and verified. More specifically, no one should hire Paintworks solely on the basis of Dale Kingsley's personal reputation -- which appears to be reasonably good.

I was less than happy when I called Dale for some help.  Another contractor had been out and broke my expensive picture window that is in my master bathroom. The other contractor was hired to replace the rotting window sill. Somehow his chisel and hammer slipped and cracked the window.  They then advised me that I had to obtain a new window and when it was ready they'd come out and install it and replace the rotted wood.  Obviously I had no confidence in doing any more business with them.  I then called Paintworks because they had previously replaced several of the large windows in my house and I knew they were competent in handling large windows.  Dale came out and reviewed everything. He then emailed me a detailed estimate.  When I agreed to the estimate, a window company arrived and took proper measurements of the octagonal shaped window.  When the window was made, Dale called and arranged for a day to install the window and replace the rotted wood.  His crew arrived on time and they completed everything except the outside painting due to an unexpected rain storm. They returned and completed the job on the next sunny day.  Obviously, I remain very upset over the unnecessary expense of the broken window.  I seriously doubt that this would have happened if I had hired Paintworks to begin with.  My bad. Thought I had bought a deal with a special promo coupon from the other contractor.  An expensive lesson. Going forward, I will call Dale first!
