Karen walked into my home for a color consultation and came up with this fantastic idea within minutes of being there.  The construction of a built-in "book" case has provided us with a place to display items we've collected on over the years, while at the same time eliminating clutter. 
Karen is not only great at what she does, she has a knack for homing in on a problem and coming up with a practical and lovely solution.  After the work was done by the contractor, Karen came back to help us hang art work.  She also suggested what objects should be displayed with other objects.  One of her ideas is to display works of art on the shelves that one usually thinks of as pieces to hang on walls.
My husband and I are both delighted with Karen's work.  And we've had tremendous compliments!

We have used Karen many times over the years. Recently we remodeled our master bedroom and bath. What I especially like is that Karen really listens, so that you end up with a room that feels like you and reflects your taste, rather than just a pretty room with no soul. She has very good color sense.
She will do as much or as little as you wish. You can meet, make a plan and then shop yourself or she will shop for you or she will go shopping with you. Whether you are furnishing through the Mart or Ikea, Karen will help you. In this case, she helped me pick out wall colors, tile and linens. Her upholster did an excellent job recovering some chairs and her seamstress made drapes. She worked well with my contractor. She even found our chandelier in a resale shop!

Her willingness to listen to everyone's ideas was refreshing. The redecorating turned out well and we were pleased with it. Her prices were very competitive with other companies we looked at.

She can work with as simple or as complicated as you want or need. She can walk in and tie things together in no time at all. She can work with what you have or design an empty room or work with an architect to make sure you get what you visualize. She's fantastic in picking colors. I love working with her! She listens and she's honest. She'll tell you if something you want won't work with your overall vision.

I wanted to redecorate our house and needed a designer's help (rather than have a designer just come up with a plan). Karen was very responsive and we worked well together. She listened to my ideas and helped me implement them by bringing the right fabrics, helping me decide on lighting fixtures and window treatments and taking me to showrooms that had the type of furniture that we were looking for. She recommended an excellent upholsterer. Also, she has contacts with "green" businesses so that we were able to use low VOC paints and floor finish and wood certified not to be from clear cutting. She also put us in contact with a charity that helps refugees so that the furniture, rugs and decorations that we were getting rid of could be used by others who were in need. It did cost more than the original plan but that is because we ended up doing more work than we planned.

Karen Kaplan is very creative and professional. She helped us to create a beautiful and comfortable home office/den. Her ideas for our bathroom were also very lovely. In each case, we ended up with rooms that we always wanted, but we did not know how to achieve the look and feel we wanted. Karen made it happen. Karen also works with a wonderful contractor who did our painting, and also a cabinet maker who built a beautiful wall unit in our second bedroom, and a beautiful vanity for our bathroom. Both companies were very professional and competent.

SHE WAS VERY CREATIVE AND HELPFUL BY ENABLING US TO TOTALLY CHANGE THE LOOK OF OUR LIVING AREAS INTO SOMETHING I'VE ALWAYS IMAGINED, BUT WAS UNABLE TO DO ON MY OWN. KAREN WAS WONDERFUL IN EVERY WAY, WITH PARTICULAR ATTENTION TO EVERY DETAIL ALONG THE WAY. EVERY ASPECT OF THE PROJECT WAS OVERSEEN BY HER PERSONALLY. VERY EFFICIENT, DEPENDABLE, AND A PLEASURE TO WORK WITH. SHE WAS VERY RESPECTFUL IF WE DIDN'T CARE FOR SOMETHING.
