One note, if you are constrained by a budget you may not find McNail to your liking as they are not the lowest cost roofer in tee area. As a matter of fact they were the highest priced of 4 different contractors that I spoke with. I decided to pay the higher price and I expected to get a better job as a result. I am pleased to say that this is what happened.
This project started out as a repair to siding damage around our chimney stack and some rotted gable rake molding on the front of our house. As Jim estimated the project we discussed other work items including pressure washing and staining our deck and backyard arbor. Since our house was last painted in 2005 it was apparent that new touch-ups would not blend in particularly well. We added a whole house paint job to the list.
While performing the work originally contracted we discovered other problem areas. Discussions with Jim in our driveway prompted us to replace more problematic wood ares with concrete board pieces. Since replacing the facia boards all around necessitated taking the gutters off and reinstalling them we discussed replacing our 5 inch gutters and leaf relief with new 6 inch gutters and a combination of gutter helmet and leaf relief inserts (We had gutter helmet on the house originally). You might say we had significant scope creep but it was for the best long term.
Jim's crews started work on Monday, October 29th and worked several days straight. Weather and cold temps caused some delays and completion of the final trim paint was Saturday, November 10th. He used three different specialty crews and they worked very efficiently. They also were very neat and picked up the job site every day.
Jim also personally took interest in several problem areas and fixed for us with no charge. These included retainers on shutters on two front windows, replacing window sash locks on two front windows, and taking one of our screens for miscellaneous repair to the retainers.
As a testament to the good relationship formed we have asked Jim to perform some repair work on our son's house.
Jim McNail was thorough explaining what products they use and do not use and how they would repair the roof. He seemed concerned about getting the job done before it rained again. We also chose them because they are local and could do the repair quickly. They were able to repair the roof the following week when one of us was able to be home and available if necessary.
We were extremely pleased with the work from start to finish!!! The crew was clean, presentable (which is huge for us), and on time. Jim came by during the repair and let me know he was here. I appreciated him coming by and filling me in on what they found under the old shingles and what they were doing to repair the roof. They matched the shingles and repaired everything that we agreed upon. The work was completed in less time than I expected. They contained the mess and thoroughly cleaned up when the repair was complete.
We are waiting for rain to ensure what repair was done is what caused the leak. We are very confident if it leaks McNail Brothers will come make it right. Again, we could not be more pleased with the company from start to finish!
