I walked into the dealership and looked at a car. I was nice enough to not even require a test drive. I found out that I was misled and the price I was paying as well as the monthly payment was significantly higher for a 72 month lease. They told me it would be around $450 for a 72 month lease and it was actually about 490. I said no deal and walked out. I was chased out by Dan Gunther who told me never to come back again and I told him it was a misunderstanding and that I was going to try and sell my car on my own and possibly would talk to them again. He told me there's no way I will be able to get what I want for my car (not true) and was getting heated and acting very rude. I was a little bit of a smart aleck in return and said "Thanks for wasting my time." He then got in my face and started yelling at me telling me that I was wasting THEIR time. He cursed at me and I responded with a few choice words that I will not repeat here (this was wrong of me, what I should have done was just got in my car). He replied to me, word for word, "I will bash your ****** head in. Get the ***** off of my property." I told him that I don't understand how he can treat his customers that way and he said "I am the boss I can do what I want." I later called and apologized for my part in the situation.
I don't think I need to explain how unprofessional and unacceptable this is. Obviously it takes 2 to argue, but there is no way, no matter what a customer says to me, that I would ever argue with them in this way. I am a small business owner, about half this man's age and it is sad that I am the one who has to be the bigger man in this situation. The sales tactics were sleezy, they were misleading, and I later found out that this business has a D rating with the BBB and many others have had similar experiences.
You can not operate a legitimate business and obtain a D rating with the Better Business Bureau, plain and simple. I am more than willing to answer any questions potential customers may have.
Response from GUNTHER VOLKSWAGEN MALL OF GEORGIA
"I do remember this person. He was with his girlfriend. Anything I say here will sound defensive and provide more mudslinging so instead I will leave it at this. He is correct about one thing. We negotiated a price and that price changed. He failed to mention that he had issues paying bills probably due the very small business he mentioned not generating enough income to pay his bills. We could not have known that he wouldn't qualify for the best finance rates due to his credit. He barely qualified for an approval at all. When we tried to explain this to him he was extremely rude and loud. His own girlfriend apologized for him and said he hadn't taken his medication. He did call back to apologize and I accepted that apology. By the way he too said he missed medicating himself that morning. You need to ask yourself.. If this scenario went down the way this customer says it did, why did he call me to apologize? I did ban him from coming back.. The conversation was heated... I stand by everything I said and did, although I NEVER threatened him or cursed a single obscenity... And he is still banned."
