On Friday (10 June 2016), I phoned their office and spoke with Donovan. He seemed very willing to do business with me and provided detailed information regarding the installation of an above ground pool. The details were as follows: $3489 for a 12X24 oval "Century Steel" pool, $1500-2500 for installation (depending how involved but would include ground prep, pool set-up, liner & fill-up), $879 for pump & filter, $129 for basic chlorination system. He said 1/2 payment down for materials and that a pool could be shipped as early as 1 week, but could take 3-4 weeks for start of project - depending on scheduling. He also informed me that Doughboy voids their warranties if salt water systems are used. This last fact made me lose my appeal for the product, so I inquired as to whether we could just hire them for "ground prep" and install our own above ground pool. He said "yes" and that it could be less than $1000 for the work, but would require somebody coming out to inspect to offer a true estimate.
I phoned back yesterday (Monday 13 June) and spoke with Donovan again to ask him to schedule somebody to come out to give us an estimate on "going prep". He confirmed that's all we needed done and I said "yes". He said he would speak to the guys to see when they would be available, write up a ticket and call back with a date and time.
I didn't hear from them yesterday, but it turns out that our phone service was down half the day.
So, I phoned back today and was told that when this was brought to Jeff's attention he said he was "not interested" and that they don't do ground prep. Clearly NOT what Donovan had told me last week. Nor did he tell me this yesterday when I phoned him back to schedule an appointment.
It's bad business not being honest with a prospective customer and wasting their time thinking you had intended on providing them a service. If it's a case of Donovan not knowing what services you provide, then somebody should inform him of this mistake so he doesn't mislead anybody else. However, given the detailed amount of information he provided, I'm more inclined to believe you'd rather not do ground prep unless somebody is willing to pay more for the whole package.
If that's the case, again, be honest with your customer up front and let them know you only do ground prep for clients who purchase your products.
This experience has left me with little interest in doing business with you in the future OR recommending you to anyone else.
"While this review is mostly accurate as Donivan did tell you that this was something that we could potentially do, he told you he would need a manager to address because he was completely unaware of the construction schedule, availability, or pricing of such a project. This employee's optimism to help this customer achieve their goals backfired when management informed the customer that the construction department was not available to take on this project. In order to complete this project, it would have slowed up our other project for customers who were already scheduled, and the price we would have charged you to prep your ground would have been very expensive relative to what it would be achieving as it would have had to be done in addition (overtime wages) to our other projects. We knew we couldn't give you a competitive quote, so we didn't. You should probably appreciate that. I consider it professional to be up front with the customer right away and inform them we couldn't take on the project (even though the guy on the phone a couple days ago told you that we probably could), than to give you some ridiculous price quote to have our guys complete the job in a time frame that was acceptable to you. Had we quoted you such a high price, you would have compared that to other quotes, and would have been on Angie's list giving us an F because we were so high priced. No promises were made, no contracts were signed, and nobody said "I'm not interested." You asked if we could do a job, the guy on the phone told you probably, the manager a couple days later said we couldn't, and you're on Angie's list giving us an F because you're sour. It's your right to do so, but it's embarrassing how quickly people will try and ruin someones business because of something so petty."
They have maintained our pool equipment and Polaris consistently for 13 years without any unnecessary or excessive expenses. The best thing about Jeffs Pool and Spa is their consistent reliability and quality of service. I never have to worry that the pool won't be in perfect condition when family or friends head outside to go swimming. So much of a home requires constant attention and maintenance - but thanks to Jeffs Pool and Spa - I know the pool is one area I never have to worry about. I highly recommend them to anyone looking for reliable and affordable high quality pool service. Because we have always been so satisfied with Jeffs Pool and Spa - I have never taken the time to provide a review. This was an unfortunate oversight on my part. It is so important that the people on Angies List take the time to provide helpful accurate reviews for the long term service providers we count on regularly. My apologies for the 13 year delay in our review. Many thanks to Jeffs Pool for over a decade of quality professional work.
Called Jeff's to report a water leak to my spa. The next day they came to my residence, diagnosed the problem and repaired the leak installing new seal and gasket to my older pump. Problem solved quickly and professionally.
This is the third time this year that I have needed their services: install a new motor on my spa; install a new gas hot water heater and this repair. All work has been completed quickly, professionally and at fair cost.
I would not hesitate to use them again and would recommend their services.
"Thank you, we appreciate your business."
REPLY: We were NOT sold chlorine from your company. There was NO sand in our pool. You were wrong! AND... when I carried the lateral in, Jeremy and another guy looked at me like I was crazy!!! They couldn't understand why I had brought it in and why Chris had told me too!!!! It also took longer than a day to turn around, and thanks to COASTAL HARDWARE... it was straightened out.
"You called in a onetime clean, when we arrived your pool was green and your filter was leaking. You also had sand returning to your pool. Now we couldn't add chemical the first day because the leak on your filter was too bad. Our next visit Chris advised you that you needed a sand change in which you said you could do that yourself and asked Chris to remove the bolt which he did. Chris also advised you that when you change your sand that you needed to inspect the lateral this is the reason sand was retuning back into the pool. Chemicals still couldn’t be added that day. When you brought a water sample into our store to be tested you had no Chlorine this is why your pool is green, so Jeremy sold you some chlorine shock. This is why after less than 24 hours you now have chlorine reading which is great. Your bill was under $100. Green pools don’t turn around in a day this can been a lengthy process if your patience."
Later on the listing realtor turned the pool on with no problem but the provider would not even do that, only give us a price to have an entire new system.
The provider might do a great job in general on servicing pools but for the inspection it was less than what we thought we were paying for.
"We did not get to inspect your pool because it was green. We cant see anything if its green. As for as not turning the system on, Turning it on without adding the proper chemicals to kill the Algae would have just clogged the filter. We cant really do anything when a pool is green."
Jose whos doing the hands on work. Very pleasant and does not waste time. Does the work very
