I talked to a friend that had just had a similar leak at his house, and he said he paid $700 to have his entire line replaced with copper line to his house for $700. (about the same distance as I needed) I thought maybe I had mis-understood Benjamin Franklin, so I contacted them to see if the $700 was for an entire new copper line. They said no, that would have been just to fix the leak on our side of the meter. They gave me an estimate of $1350 to run a whole new line. When the county inspector came out to take a second look at the leak, and I told him the price I was quoted to fix the leak, he just about fell over. He thought the price was high and that $700 price would have been to run an entirely new copper line.
Thanks to the county, I was only out $237, but needless to say, I will not be using Benjamin Franklin to replace my water line to the house or for any other services. I will say, they were VERY prompt, and they had a very nice looking professional truck. FYI.. Credit card charge was to Garner Plumbing, Inc. when the charge came through, and not to Benjamin Franklin Plumbing.
customer looking for a proffessional plumber. Just moved in area and we found our plumber Ben was great.
I called them back about the problem and scheduled a new appointment. The day of the appointment, I received a call asking me if I really want them to come again. Since this wasn't a model they sell they couldn't guarantee a fix but they'd definitely be willing to keep coming out and charging me to tinker with it. Instead, they suggested their own $2200 replacement model. I cancelled the appointment.
Be warned, you will be charged even if nothing is fixed. I also found their replacement water softener pricing to be very high. On the bright side, they are nice and punctual. They were also the 3rd company I called about looking at the water softener. The first two wanted nothing to do with it even though they had water softeners listed here on Angie's List as a service offered.
The representative returned quickly on a Saturday to perform the work and made a special effort to clean up the work area (better than he found it). He also offered good advice on all questions, whether they were related to the work he performed or not. He even found a way to charge a little less (using a discount associated with an annual service plan) than originally quoted.
My only complaint is that he emptied the old water heater in my lawn, which killed a section of grass - An innocent mistake.
