by Professional Carpet Systems (PCS). called to make an appt. for the
next week and spoke with a very knowledgeable secretary. before tech
arrived, we moved all of the lighter-weight furniture and accessories
off of the carpet in every room. PCS does not move furniture as they
send one (1) tech with the truck. very professional tech, David,
arrived on-time, surveyed the job, hooked his hose to the outside tap
and took about 2.5 hours to steam-clean 6 rooms and a 13-step
staircase. steam-cleaning results were better than expected and i will
steam-clean again next year (if not before). the actual process is a
little noisy and most of the carpet required overnight to dry
thoroughly. my expectation level for drying time had been set by the
secretary at 2 - 6 hours; however, drying time was just a little
inconvenience. i will use PCS again. p.s. got a 5% first-time client
discount with an angie's list coupon the use of which i confirmed with
the secretary when making the appt. thank you, PCS, for honoring the
coupon and thank you, Angie's List, for providing the coupon.
Shawn arrived at 5:15pm and quickly began work. However his truck equipment suffered a mechanical failure that caused superheated water to be applied to the rugs. With my help he repaired the hose break and continued with the rug cleaning. To his credit he refused the $15.00 extra charge we expected to pay for doing the stairs. The GroupOn offer was only for 4 rooms and a hall. When he began reeling up his hoses, he noticed me with ear protection (actually I was listening to the radio) and observed that the pump engine muffler had come off.
Both representatives were well groomed and courteous, but their truck equipment, the hoses, the boiler, the pump engine were obviously in need of maintenance and repair. Shawn's water hoses connections were seriously leaking (I told him the fix). Shawn said this truck had just been assembled for doing cleaning. If this truck was a new truck ... The 1st representative's truck looked older, with multi-colored hoses spliced together. He never started his pump motor so I don't know whether it was as loud.
The carpet had many dark orange/brown sticky stains from an oil-based medication my cats took daily, plus the usual accumulation of grime. The loveseat had black smears of industrial grease. The grease didn't come out completely, but that could be partly or entirely because I had ground it in with my panicked attempts to get it out when the incident happened. Nevertheless, Shawn did a good job. I had thought the carpet had been pretty much perfectly cleaned until I inspected the room having most of the medication stains, in preparation for writing this review. A few suspiciously dark spots proved upon touching to still be sticky. This does not change my view of the quality of the job. (The prior company got the stains out completely and with no sticky residue, but the harsh chemicals made me so sick I just couldn't use them again, which was a shame.) I didn't know if steam could handle the medication stains or the grease, so I was very happy and still am. And maybe next time the residual of the stains will come out.
A note about the cost: I used a voucher purchased on Daily Deals for $49 and the loveseat added $35 to that. I don't know what their usual charge is.
as an FYI: I am not sure how much this helps to the overall results; but I did do a thorough vacuum and did request PCS to pre-treat the stains before they started.
