Drs. Iverson and Walker are the best. We have been using Highland Animal Hospital for a number of years and feel that the level of care and concern for our pets is unmatched.

They were awesome.  We have been taking our three dogs there for years, and we have never had any issues.  There is sometimes a wait for an appointment, but I've had this issue with other vets in the area as well.  They were super helpful as always.  And my dogs love their staff .  They were great with my rescue who was slightly aggressive when we first got him, too.   I plan to keep them as my vet in this area.

Chico was especially calm this visit, usually he goes crazy. The lady that handled him this time did a perfect job.

I really like them. They are very caring and they will try to work me in. They are very compassionate and it is clean. The people that work there are very courteous and upbeat. The cost can be staggering. Dr. Walker is the one that I like the best. He treats my pet like it is a child. I picked up a dog one time that I found laying in the road, she had a broken back and he had to put her to sleep. He told me it was the best thing because, she would have died a slow miserable death.

Upon research, this drug is typically given to dogs and has been proven to be fatal to cats much less elderly ones. I share this because I feel it is important to question everything your vet wants to do. I regret so much allowing him to give that injection and never want anyone to go through what we did to save the life of a precious pet. I could never recommend Highland or Dr. Walker for this reason.

Every one at Highland Animal Hospital is so kind and caring. They make you and your pet feel welcome and appreciated. They are so easy to deal with. And in between check ups, I can call them and ask questions and they have time to answer them. If you are looking for a team to provide care for your family pet you should check them out. I will be staying with them. When I hear what other places charge and the service they receive, I am again so happy with Highland. They are reasonable, competent, and concerned about you and your pet.

It went well but the parrot died a few days later. It was too sick when I bought it at the store. I got my money refunded.

After being told, on 6/17, by my regular vet in Martinez that there was 'no way to see inside my dog's abdominal cavity other than to do surgery' I took my dog to Highland Animal Hospital, for the first time on Monday, 6/24/13 for an ultrasound. We saw Dr. Iverson, he performed the ultrasound. He discovered that he had a bleeding tumor on his spleen. He told me that there was only a 20% chance that it wasn't malignant and hasn't already spread. After much thought I decided to opt for surgery.

Yesterday, 6/26/13 they did the surgery. About 30 minutes after beginning Dr. Iverson came into the waiting room and, with great compassion, told me that the cancer had spread to his liver and would continue to bleed over time. I told him to put him down while under the anesthesia. My heart is broken, but no vet or physician, could have been more kind or compassionate then Dr. Iverson. I trust his ability and professionalism.

My dog (and I) have never had anything but the best of care and attention..I could not be happier. The animals in our family are exceptionally important to us. They are our family. We are so thankful for Highland Animal Hospital and Dr. Walker.

Jackson is a mixed-golden retriever dog...11 years old. He had bad breath and the vet suggested we have his teeth cleaned at the last check-up in January 2012. I just didn't follow up on that suggestion. After visiting our son in November and enjoying his dog, we came home and called out vet right away to get Jackson's teeth cleaned. They scheduled us for the next week....gave the directions over the phone and we arrived on time that Monday morning. The tech that helped us check in was MOST helpful, patient and kind...very much appreciated! I explained our budget was $300. I had been told over the phone that teeth cleaning was $215.00. I later learned that was simply a base cost.
The vet called during the cleaning and said that 4 teeth were loose and one was infected. She seemed very professional talking with my husband ( a retired dentist).
The total bill was $290.00.
I feel that Jackson was given good care, the drugs were the right amount for him and he slept most of the next 12 hours.
The parting instructions were hurriedly given as they were trying to close. It was kind of her to suggest the extra antibiotic ( a human one) would be cheaper at Kroger pharmacy.
We would have really liked to have talked with her about the extra antibiotic. I had never given Jackson a pill before. His mouth hurt and he was not about to let me push a pill into his mouth....nor was he interested in eating anything with a pill hidden in it! My husband went into professional dental mode and gave me an armchair consultation: Try to get Jackson to drink water, take his pain medicine and let's wait until morning and see how things are.
It worked out fine! Jackson is well, feels much better, smells good and we are all happy!
We have taken animals to this business for 30 years...and will continue.

When I had to put one of my pets down he felt my pain and I was not charged for the service.

My cat got sick in the middle of the night. The website mentions after-hours care and has a phone number. I called, but got a message machine, so I left a message stating I would bring the cat in as soon as I could in the morning. I brought the cat in without an appointment, about an hour after they opened, but they got me in really fast. They examined the cat, gave her a sanitary trim, took a stool sample, swabbed her vulva, and gave her an ultrasound. The staff was very professional and gave me tips on pilling the cat - new and valuable information, even though I've had cats all my life. They were gentle, skillful and kind when handling her. I mentioned during the visit that I thought the symptoms might be a result of worms, and that I was planning to bring another cat in because I thought she might have them, too. They talked to me a bit about the other cat and some prevention methods. They diagnosed the cat I brought in with bacterial vaginitis, gave her a shot, and gave me pills to give her, and even gave me topical wormer for the other cat. The price was much less than I expected, especially with the ultrasound.

I have used Highland Animal Hospital before and they are good. They are medium to high in price, there are some veterinarians that have lower exams fees but I have been using Highland Animal Hospital for so long that I find it hard to change. They respond to calls the same day as well.

My dog seemed okay enough when I picked him up, and I would probably go back again, but the customer service could be improved. I have moved around enough that my vaccination records are all over the place, so it took a few minutes to sort through them with the receptionist. She was a little rude about it. Also, because the place smells like the vet, my dog was agitated. He acted badly, but the receptionist was curt about it, and proceeded to put a tag on the cover that said something like "biter". When he was picked up, he was fine, and seemed like he had been treated well. Overall, I think they could handle themselves a little better. The hostility the receptionist gave me for my less than perfect dog, did not help the situation, and I think it made him act up more (because I was flustered!). However, the price is better than some in town because they do not require flea baths like some of the other kennels.

Highland Animal Hospital is where I take my animals for all wellness checks and in the event that they get sick. Over the 12 years that I've gone to H.A.H., my animals have had very high quality care from an especially caring staff. I've brought in a lizard that fell out of his enclosure, a vomiting macaw and my younger yorkie who, over several years, ate an emery board, got run over by a car and was attacked by a hawk. The doctors knew exactly what to do in each of those cases as well the dozens of less exciting problems I've brought to them. They also helped me through the sudden death of my beloved, never been sick before, older yorkie. H.A.H. can handle anything that happens to your companion animals.
