"Michael...I looked up your move and this was done 12/14/15. I am so sorry to hear of this problem on Angie's list. We do have a questionnaire given to each customer with a self-stamped/addressed envelope and I do not see anything of chipped furniture marked walls. We always want to give the best customer service possible and do provide $300 worth of insurance, no deductible, no cost to you. Please get in touch with me if this problem still remains as we want to satisfy our customers."
Three movers arrived with a large truck on time. They were very professional and nice. They got right to work and were very focused on completing the task. We had packed everything ourselves into containers of all types and boxes, they were fine working with this misc jumble of boxes and containers. They did a good job using every inch of space in the truck.
On the unload they had to get a couch into a room that was an extremely tight fit. They used blankets and such to minimize touching the wall at the front door and it worked well. The couch just wouldn't fit into the room without scratching one of the walls - they pointed this out first and asked us if we wanted them to proceed before doing it. Overall everything was moved in with minimal wall dings and no broken items.
The time estimated for the job was right on target with the actual time to complete it. The owner of the company was very polite on the phone and they did a good job estimating cost. We started the day around 8:30am and finished around 3:30pm.
I was very glad Five Star was available in our area and was able to help us. I would definitely recommend their services.
Pack & Load in Augusta
==================
1) They brought no boxes to pack with.
Even tho we had several talks with Five Star to make sure they were bringing adequate boxes including boxes for the Queen mattress and boxspring, they showed up the morning they were supposed to load with no boxes whatsoever. My husband had to scrounge our boxes while one of the crew left and bought some.
2) The Queen mattress and boxspring were not boxed -- they were loaded onto the truck wrapped in plastic.
3) The custom-made comforter, matching bedskirt and King shams, and 5 decorative pillows were placed in the truck loose -- unboxed.
Unloading /Delivery in Florida
=======================
1) I watched the delivery men carry my expensive custom-made comforter, matching bedskirt and King shams, and 5 decorative pillows wadded-up BY THE FISTFUL from the truck into the house. I had a perfect view of the interior of the truck from where I sat in front of a window in the Study watching the unloading process. They cannot claim they removed the items from boxes to bring them into the house.
2) The Queen custom-made bedskirt -- which matched the shams - was lost. It is impossible to match or replace because the fabric and the color were unique. A new bedskirt with matching shams will have to be made.
3) A newly-constructed Roubo workbench from my husband's workshop was severely damaged when the deliverymen dragged -- rather than carried -- the workbench from the truck to his new workshop. Three of four legs on the workbench were splintered.
Five Star did pay some partial compensation for the workbench damage after extended discussions regarding our damages and losses.
I deliberately waited 6 months before writing this review in order to calm down. Five Star may have great ratings on AngiesList but, even now, all I can say is this was a horrible experience.
The one positive outcome is I thank God this was only the mini-move and not all of my household goods!
"We immediately took responsibility for omitting the boxes on loading day and rectified the problem. We compensated the customer over the amount the customer was allowed for damage to workbench. We are not able to deal with the emotional value as there is nothing no monetary amount we can place here."
1. If you decide to use them, please be aware that when they send you the estimate via email {is how we got it) it states, "We offer $300 insurance with no deductible.". Then the day of the move they have you sign a document that reads,
Not sure how well you can read it, but basically your stuff is worth $300 and if something is damaged, they can decide to pay for it or give you the $300.
Now in fairness, the movers were on time and pleasant. As part of the estimate we asked that they empty our two pods as well. The day of the move, that had not been communicated with them and we had to contact the owner in order to get them to do that for us.
At the start of the move, my husband told them that in order to get the refrigerator out of the house, they needed to remove the doors. Instead of listening to him, as we moved it in there, they decided to snake it out the front door. They got it, but not without scraping the front ice maker down to the white and the stainless steel. The worse thing, they never told us. When I found it I emailed the owner and they were apologetic stating in an email that they had reported the scratch but evidently did not tell the owners.
Then, a few days later when the painters were finishing up, we went to move the refrigerator back into place and noticed that the two back wheels were broken. Embedded into the bottom of the fridge. Not only that, our hardwood floor was scratched...not just superficially but deeply. The scratches were about 20 inches long. Thankfully, the fridge covers most of it, but you know it is there.
So, I took pictures and emailed the owner. At first, the owner's wife was very apologetic and stated that she would get their floor guy right on it. She sent the pics to him and then emailed back stating, "and he said rather than us pay him to go to Johnston to get an estimate which he may not be able to handle, he recommends our sending you the insurance money. I have dropped a check for $300, amount covered by Five Star for a move, in the mail today."
And that was that. We got a check in the mail for a job that will be a lot more than $300. I was not there when my husband signed the waiver. However, if I had been, they would have had the option to just leave and not move us. I told the owner that had we understood that initially, we never would have chosen them.
Do NOT let these people rip you off! The move was stressful enough but now we have a damaged refrigerator AND damaged hardwood floors...OH, and a check for $300.00.
done quickly and safely. We were worried about damages to the new house
because of confined space and large furniture to move up a narrow
staircase. The guys at Five Star sent three people to do the move, one
to coordinate, and two to do the lifting and moving. That made all of
the difference in the world. They were able to move our stuff quickly
from a 3rd story apartment to a house with two floors without damaging
anything. I would highly recommend them in the future.
experienced loaders should understand that fact when loading your things. If you're looking to move a few pieces of junk across town, call Five Star moving. However, if you're looking for a professional outfit to help you load and move expensive furniture, look elsewhere.
I would recommend Five Star Moving without reservations to anyone considering a local move.
My only disapponitment was the lady who gave me the price forgot to tell me about the charge for travel time. We move often and I know this is customary charge so I didn't mind paying it. I am sure she just forgot to tell me, since I have never hired movers and not had to pay this charge. Overall the price was reasonable.
We have hired movers in different cities around the country at least 8 times and it is safe to say, this was one of the best experiances we have had.
