Rentals - Cars
.At Thrifty, we were asked if we wanted insurance. We said no
as 1)our car insurance covers us 2)our credit card covers us 3) our AAA covers
us.
We were required to initial several hard copies and check
agree for a number of items on a computer screen. The computer screen was
first.
It is an old DOS type screen, in very tiny print, and
unreadable in the open light. It was so bad that the agent had to show us where
the 'I agree' button actually was in order to hit it.
When we asked what we were signing, we were told that it was
to confirm that we didn't want insurance.
When asked to sign the hard copy, we were again told that we
were confirming not taking the insurance. We needed to be told this as again,
the presentation was hard to read.
The upshot was that we paid $77.00 for insurance we didn't
need for the three days of car rental.
This is a scam, as we said we didn't want it, we were
provided with documents/computer screens that were unreadable and were therefore
dependent on the honesty of the agent. We asked and were told that we were
initialing declining, twice.
Other people have to have had this experience which means
that, as it hasn't been corrected, it is purposeful on the company's part.
Separately, we reserved a mid-size SUV which was called out as a Ford Escape. When we got there, there was only one car, a JEEP. It turned out that the AC only worked some of the time and it was very difficult to get in and out of the passenger seat as there was no grab bar and the nor running board
