STEINWAY PIANO GALLERIES

During this experience I learned that The Steinway Piano Gallery subcontracts piano moving to other companies in Atlanta. I was not thrilled to learn this but I figured they would have to hire reputable people in order to maintain their reputation. Interestingly, the piano movers refer to themselves as 'Steinway Piano Moving' when they announced themselves to me on the phone. The scheduled day arrives and at 9AM I receive a call from "Dave with Steinway Piano Movers" confirming our appointment and restating he will arrive between 1PM and 3PM and will give me a call 1 hour in advance. 1PM: no call, no piano movers. 2PM, still no word. At 2:30PM Dave calls apologizing for not having called earlier. Dave said he is on his way and would be at my house in 30 minutes. I immediately find a stopping point in my work and leave my office. Since there is no way I could make it to my house in time I call my partner who was at the house packing and cleaning and let him know to expect them in 30 minutes. We agreed I would wait at the new house and direct the arrival. About 45 minutes after the guys should have arrived my partner calls to let me know the movers have not shown up yet. As we are talking on the phone they arrive. Dave's work partner comes in to the house alone and, without introducing himself, asks where the piano is. When he sees the piano he says 'What size is that?" He is told "7 feet". The guy simply says "We can't move a piano that big" and walks out of the house. In a few minutes Dave walks in and, without introducing himself, announces that there was a miscommunication and they are not prepared to move a 7 foot piano. (a 7 foot grand piano is not even a BIG one!) Dave tells my partner that I will need to call the Steinway Piano Gallery and discuss the situation with them. So, my partner calls me to let me know Dave is calling Donna at The Steinway Galleries. After about 15 minutes, Dave and his buddy drive away, no word. I immediately called Donna because I had not idea how I was going to find and book someone else this close to the date I needed to be out of the house. Donna told me not to worry, that either she or Dave would call me back later that evening. I heard nothing. The next morning Donna and I started texting. I asked what was going on with moving my piano and she said that "Dave said he can't do it because his schedule is booked solid" and that she is "very sorry". I told her that her answer was completely unacceptable. Steinway Piano Galleries has absolutely no excuse for not being able to move a piano because of size especially given that they were the company that sold it to me. I found myself that morning of March 5, 2-days before the sale of my home closed, left high and dry by The Steinway Piano Gallery with no alternative but to find another piano moving company who has time available in the next 2 days to move my piano AND - I am their customer! I am still in awe of this horrible experience with them.

This is a fun class. We meet on Monday evenings for 1 hour. It's $99 for six weeks. Since there are only 2 or 3 of us at each class, Joyce usually gives us extra instruction. We've all played piano back in the day, but believe me it's just like starting over. The class is held at the Steinway Galleries in a private room. We each have our own keyboard. We play individually and all at once. We've learned hand position, scales, chords, notes and some real cool songs. The best part is meeting all of the really neat people.
