Smith Moving LLC

We contacted Walt Smith of Smith Movers to move us into our apartment in Grant Park. The move went well overall, and I've recommended this company to friends many times since. However, I've recently been privy to some racist comments Walt made on a public social media page - both regarding his black employees and black people in general - and I can never recommend him again. I'm posting here because people deserve to know who they're hiring.

WORST MOVERS EVER. DO NOT USE, THEY WILL TAKE YOUR MONEY. Walt is unprofessional and will target you and purposefully move slow to run the hours up to take more money from you. Don't make the mistake i did to use him along with rent the blankets from him as you have to pay him an additional $40 on top of the $90 rental fee. As I am not a professional mover I requested from him I advance all recommendations on what I needed to be prepared and Walt failed to give me an accurate list of items that should be purchase before the move. He then had the nerve to blame me for his inability to inform his customers of what is needed for a move. He is understaffed with only one other guy so it is horrible if you are trying to move quickly. It took them 3.5 hours to move an 800 square foot apartment up to my stage pod. When I asked for a refund for his laziness and purposely slow movement of my things he sent an unprofessional response saying I was no longer a welcome customer. What a laugh as I would ever trust him around my things ever again. And can't afford to loose any more money or been taken advantage of again A direct quote from Walts unprofessional repose to me: " YOU and only YOU are responsible for the success or failure of your move (we simply do the heavy lifting & packing). " If this is the kind of guy you will trust with your belonging then good luck. I warned you!

First off, before you interpret my review, I will say I gave them an amazing rating.  Realize the price they offer and weight the service provided and it is the best hands down.  To start, Walt, the owner, is a late riser, but he will also respond to you pretty late at night.   Good deal for people like me on some sort of shift work.  He also is prompt in getting back to you, and answers his phone.   Emails were returned within minutes!  I almost don't want to mention it, but his assistant had facial tattoos.  I hope that readers of this review realize this is no indication of anything, so lets get beyond this fact.  They took a quick tour of the house and they started to go.  30 years combine experience really showed through.  These guys took care to protect and pack well to conserve space.   They worked like they were in a rush to get the job done.   This provided me an amazing value, because they really worked great, worked with my special concerns, and around some delivery guys without any trouble.  I only had limited space for the pods, so I had to split it in two different days.  The second day wasn't as efficient/neat.  The owner didn't show up personally this time, but his assistants arrived promptly.  They packed a little less organized, and worked maybe a little slower.  There was no reason to be upset about this, as I can't complain as for the price, this was still an above average service.  I've seen more expensive moving teams work slower then they did and with less regard for the furniture.  It seemed like they were on a timetable but still very courteous and careful.  Again, this is probably the best value moving service I have ever seen.  Couldn't recommend more, and I will use them again next time when my house is finally built!

They worked the entire time at the site. No scratches, dents or dings on
our funiture. Fantastic job.

I have used Smith Moving a number of times in the last month. We moved from one house, into storage pods, and then from the pods to a new house. Walter and his group were always prompt, professional, hard working, and very careful with our furniture and accessories. There was no damage to any of our items from packing to unpacking which is the mark of a good moving company. I would definitely use Smith moving again and have recommended them to friends.

They finished in an hour and a half. They were amazing. They were so awesome. They put our furniture together. They were great. I would absolutely recommend them. You should use this company. They are the cheapest, and the service is great. They are very responsive. I would use them again.
