I ordered the shelves in February 2015, and they were installed in April. The shelves seemed fine (although expensive). In early September a brace on the underside of one of the upper shelves came loose and hung down, blocking the shelves from "gliding" in and out of the cabinet. I called Shelf Genie several times in September and October and emailed them, asking them to come and fix the hanging brace. No response. No call back. No email back. By good fortune another contractor was here working on some shelves, and when he saw the problem he volunteered to fix it, so the brace has been fixed. But no thanks to Shelf Genie. To be clear this was Shelf Genie of Northern Virginia & Washington, DC. The franchisee was Cabinet Magic, Inc. Lead designer was Joe Johnson. Installer was Jim Burgess.
UPDATE -- October 30, 2015: Within an hour of my posting this review I got an email from Joe Johnson apologizing, saying he had sold the franchise and perhaps my messages/emails got lost in the transition, and a phone call from Jim Burgess, also apologizing and offering to come fix the shelves. Since the problem had already been addressed I declined his offer.

He did a wonderful job. And one time, the door to the cabinet fell off. It was the door on the cabinet that we had put in the new shelving, so I called him and told him what had happened. He said, 'Do exactly what I tell you to do and if that doesn't fix it, I will be right there'. So, I put my son on the phone, my son got the instructions, he went and fixed it. It has been fine ever since. He is really good. In fact, we have a home in Florida, I am going down there in another month and I am going to have the same company do the cabinets down there too. Two years ago he came and put in all the ShelfGenie type shelving. They pull out, so I can stand next to the shelf and pull it out, load it up and push it back in. Same with my pantry, I no longer have a pantry that you have to dig in and out of, I just stand next to it, pull out the shelf, get what need to and push it back in. It was expensive but it has been worth it. I have a herniated disc in my back, so getting things in and out of shelves is very hard. It made life beautiful. For most people especially young couples, I think this would not be something I would suggest them doing, but for older people this is really an A. You just have to have this done. When he was caught up in a job somewhere else, he called me. So he did, every 15 minutes he would call me and say, ''I am still here but I am coming'.

I am writing this review late (by a couple of years), but as I am searching for additional work to be done I came across this provider and remembered what a great experience I had and can say that the shelves are holding up even two years later with tons of use and abuse. The shelves themselves are an absolute TOP QUALITY product! But I also must say that the installer Jim and his son were VERY professional and did such an amazing job. The trash shelf I wanted was an issue and the floor was uneven and Jim, with his vast experience, expertise and engineering creativity was able to fix the problem and still give me what I wanted. Truly if he did work other than just for Shelf Genie I would hire him and his son for this new project! So to recap - Service = EXCELLENT, Product = Durable and Sustainable, Cost = VALUE. I could not be happier with Shelf Genie!

- About 2 days after I called the 800 number, Mr. Johnson, the franchise holder in my area (Northern Virginia), called and made an appointment to assess my needs. He measured everything, explained what could be done, noted which things would help and which would not (this impressed me, he did not try to sell more than I needed), and gave me a price. Accepted my credit card for 50%. Later the same day, the installer called, made an appointment for the next day to take a look. When he arrived (right on time), he remeasured, verified that my expectations and his offerings were on the same page. The shelves then had to be built. In about two weeks, installer called and made an appointment to come put everything in. It was a good full day's work, he arrived on time at 10:00 a.m. and left just before 7:00 p.m., everything completed. Now, three weeks later, I am delighted.

It was very nice. Simple man. He was alone. He not only came out to look, but he also does the work. He does a very good job. I would recommend him highly. I thought the price was really high, but I needed it. I had to have something because I was routing through the shelves and couldn't find anything; whereas with the genie, I just have to pull the drawer out and there I am.

Wonderful experience. They were very professional throughout the whole process. They gave me ideas to help organize my kitchen and were very knowledgeable about their products and what would work best for me. They asked a lot good questions in order to pcome up with the best design for me. The installation process was easy and very clean I love my kitchen with new shelving

This was a top notch experience! From the very beginning until the end, the company's staff were very professional, courteous, and diligent. We are extremely pleased with the shelving and have not encountered any problems since it was installed. My only regret is that I did replace my old unhappy shelving earlier!

Shelfgenie was excellent! They came one day and listen to what we wanted and then measured the three cabinets for the appropriate shelving and then came back with the materials and worked quietly and efficiently on the second day and completed the work. Getting dishes and pots and pans is no longer a problem. As for cereal boxes, vegetable cans, etc. no longer a problem. We couldn't figure out why we waited so long to get this done! WE highly recommend this company AND its people!!!!!
