When calling, their sales department is more than happy to get you signed up for their services (in fact that’s the only way to reach a person – their existing customer option just takes you to their voicemail), however that is where the ‘good’ about this company ends. On the day of our move, we got a call that the movers would be arriving an hour late. We were moving out of a 4-bedroom house and had 5 movers and 2 trucks lined up, so it was evident that this was a big move. Showing up an hour late severely put a dent into an already tight timeline. The movers themselves did not wear masks or have any regard for the damage being done to the house, however I thought I was covered, because we purchased the additional insurance. As they were backing their truck down our driveway, they put a couple deep scratches in the drives. They had to remove a door and ended up breaking the door itself, and scratched and scuffed the majority of surfaces they came in contact with. As they were wrapping and loading our items, it seems like the crew leader and one other guy were the only ones doing any real work. Several times, I noticed the other three hanging out by the truck or just walking around aimlessly. They also, do not put much care for your belongings, they caused a lot of damage to our old house by scratching walls and floors due to improperly protected items. They had to take apart appliances that they didn’t want to lift through the doorway, and at 1 point I saw one of the movers standing inside our refrigerator to disconnect some wires. They really do not care about your belongings. When we got to the new house, there was additional damage done, as they continued to complain about how tired they were and didn’t put much care into unloading their truck. This is where they really fail as a company: Once the move was completed, I was asked to sign the final paperwork which included a list of damages to the original dwelling, the new dwelling, and any items. Without having unpacked any boxes or furniture, they expected me to notify them of the damages that they had caused. I listed off what I knew of based on monitoring what they had done. Then came time to submit the insurance claim (we had purchased additional insurance through them, as I’ve moved a couple times and knew the risks). To purchase the insurance there was a 1 paragraph description of the coverage and liability that we signed. No where in this description did it talk about exclusions or anything of that nature. After the move, I got in contact with them to try and understand how best to submit my claim (for almost $8k in damages). I meticulously documented with photos, descriptions, and repair estimates (where possible) all the damage done. After a week I hadn’t heard anything, so I had to reach out again, and they said they are still submitting to the insurance group. This is where the insanity started. I finally got a message from MyPorter that they will not cover damages to the dwellings (walls, floors, driveway) because they are not a part of what is ensured. The customer service representative mentioned that it is implied in the language of the contract (again 1 paragraph) and upon further reading it with a lawyer involved, it’s not clear that it is. They then tried to claim that damage to a dryer plug (rendering the entire dryer inoperable) was not covered. At this point MyPorter produced a 5 page document detailing their insurance coverage, a document that was not provided earlier, nor was signed by us. Upon further back and forth, they stated that the forms that were filled out after the move was all they were going to cover. These are the same forms that they ask you to fill out and sign before the movers will leave and you’ve had a chance to unpack and assess any additional damages to your belongings. I would NEVER again trust MyPorter with a move, and I’d advise you not to either. They are a completely unprofessional company to deal with. They do not stand by their customers, and they are incredible deceptive to work with.
