Kain Landscape is dedicated to providing our clients landscape and hardscape design and installation services they can be completely satisfied with. We base our success on customer satisfaction, and that leads our clients to recommending us to others. We keep our advertising budget intentionally small because our success comes by performing the wishes of our clients to their utmost satisfaction. We are members of GGIA, Malta, B.B.B., and GAA in Atlanta. Kain Landscape completes the majority of all projects in house using sub-contractors on an as needed basis. Kain Landscape services the majority of all Atlanta as well as Portions of Smyrna, Roswell, Alpharetta, Johns Creek, Milton, Duluth and Lilburn. Kain Landscape gladly accepts all major credit cards.

Everything went well. Neil Kain was very knowledgable and understood what needed to be done to solve our drainage problem we had in the backyard. His crew was great to work with. After we had a break in the weather, rainy for weeks, he and his team showed up and got to the tasks. The tasks that we chose to have done were, 1) remove slate walkway/patio area, level and replace the slates with filler polymer to hold in place, 2) and 3) clear the right and left side of driveway. The right side (facing the house) would be cleared of a ground cover and rocks and then sodded, the left side would be cleared of roots, metal stakes and the rocks from the right side would be placed on that side. While there they here they even cleared grass away from slate stepping stones around the front of the yard and power washed theses and more that led to the street. We asked for an estimate to build a handrail down the stepping stones to the street which he prepared and 2 days later that was also done. Neal and his team were efficient and thorough. They even came back and put more staples in the sod on the right side of the driveway. The driveway sides are steep banks, not flat.

We were thrilled with the work that was done by Neil Kain and his team! When we were evaluating companies for our big project, we spoke with a number of different companies. Kain Landscape won our business for a variety of reasons. They were professional and knowledgeable and affordable. Prior to starting the project, Neil came to our home a few times to review the landscape plan and assess the sunshine to determine the proper plant material needed. We had a very tight timeline that Kain's team executed flawlessly. Rob was our project manager and he ensured that the team was on time and working diligently to meet our expectations. On occasion, we experienced some weather delays and the team did an exceptional job in protecting their work with necessary tarps, etc. Once the project was completed, we had a few extra things that we wanted to add. Kain did a great job in itemizing these changes in a detailed scope of work with appropriate pricing adjustments. Our backyard is truly beautiful and is a paradise to us--special thanks to Neil Kain and his team. We highly recommend this company.

I called Kain Landscaping on 3/21/13 after researching and trying to find a landscaper to quote a job. Neil set an appointment to come out on 3/26/13 and we went over my ideas for the yard. He showed up on time without an issue and he sent over an initial proposal on 4/3/13. After a detailed review and 2 more visits to the house we put down a 50% deposit on 4/12/2013. I have to be honest that we were nervous about putting down the deposit but understood it was necessary in order to start the purchasing process of the plants we agreed on. Neil did provide a receipt without issue.
This is what he was to do:
*Clean the front yard beds of all debris, weeds, poison ivy, vines and roots etc. (It was a mess)
*Rough & Final Grading / Soil Amendments to 4 beds - we had a huge grading issue and after the clean up they would bring in fresh dirt and grade appropriately.
*Plant 328 plants, shrubs, ground cover within the 3 beds - left and right of front porch and front island; yes - 328 is the correct number
*Hardwood mulch in and around the 3 beds with plants and one additional without plants- Per our request we didn't want pine straw
*Add one vent well - installed to the house with masonry screws where requested
*Install stone retaining wall on the side of driveway dirt mound - stones were provided by us
Fee Schedule:
Front Yard Clean Up: $925.00
Rough and Final Grading / Soil Amendments: $1335.00
Plant Material - Front Foundation: $1050.00
Plant Material - Front Island: $1368.00
Plant Material - Left Side of Front Yard: $980.00
Hardwood Mulch: $595.00
Vent Wells: $125.00
Stone Wall - No additional charge
Total Charge: $6375.00
We received a detailed quote and waited for the plants to come in and to be put on the schedule. It did take more time than we would have liked to get everything finished, but I feel that is normal. Everyone wants immediate results once they have made a decision to move forward.
I would like to add that there were several revisions to the quote in order to accommodate our budget.
The job took 2 1/2 days and the yard has transformed to a well manicured, low maintenance, clean looking yard. Kain Landscaping and Neil Kain are worth the wait to get what you want. I do believe that we could have received a better price and maybe even a quicker turn around with another company but I also believe that the quality wouldn't be the same. Neil has spent more time than I expected he would be wiling to spend on answering my questions - before, during and now after the process. He has always responded to emails and telephone calls to assist us through this project. I also have no doubt that he will continue to answer my questions should I have any. Neil has a true passion for what he does and that is obvious.
The bulk of the job was completed last Friday before the Memorial Day holiday - however we were a few plants short so Neil came back out today to install the remaining plants and walk the job with me again answering questions about maintenance etc before I paid him the balance due. What an honest company and guy to come out and finish planting the few that were missed. With 328 plants, I would imagine that most other companies would have figured that we wouldn't notice...of course we would have eventually - but we didn't have to ask for him to do the right thing.
All in all, we are extremely happy and look forward to the plants growing and continuing to improve our once bad curb appeal. You may have to wait a bit to get everything done, but I assure you that you won't regret your decision to go with Neil Kain and Kain Landscaping.

We have been extremely pleased with the new walls and have seen during the recent heavy rains that the drainage system installed between the walls has prevented what once were 'waterfalls' over the old wall. We had planned on having a new walkway installed leading to the pool cabana at a later date but decided to go ahead with that project to give our yard a totally new look. I must say that we can hardly wait until Spring when the azaleas, hydrangeas, and gardenias are blooming! We'll certainly be spending more time in the back yard than ever before, mainly due to the expertise of Neil Kain and his crew at Kain Landscape, Inc., in preparing our backyard landscape/hardscape.

Neil and his crew were great. He was prompt in coming out for an estimate and kept cost right on track. Neil gave us great information in making a decision on which company to choose (we had three written estimates before deciding on Kane Landscaping). He kept us informed on the time frame for starting the project and once started, it was completed a day faster than we talked about. He also talked about the hill and affects of water drainage, which neither of the other landscapers brought up. They used existing soil on site to build the raised berm and directional swale. We also talked about adding a couple small trees (he kept one that was good, which was great for us) and maybe some other plantings later on. If we do that, we'll definitely use Kane Landscaping.

Mr. Kain provided a thorough overview of options and worked with us to map out options. His team did a great job transforming our backyard into the planned design. Everything was great until it rained. Mud began seeping through the installed retaining wall. Mr Kain had some of his team come out and place a new cap on the retaining wall. The cap did not remedy the mud problem. I reached out to Mr. Kain no less than 5 times since trying to have his team out to correct the issue. Each connection was met with assurances they would be out to correct the wall. It has been over 2 years and they still have not corrected the problem. I asked Mr. Kain via voicemail and email to respond to let me know whether they were going to have someone out to correct the wall – the requests went unanswered.

Neil is a true professional in every sense of the word. He is responsive, detail oriented and pleasant to deal with. His crew is a reflection of him. After we met and discussed the job, I received a detailed proposal for the job within 48 hours. He was flexible in dealing with some issues that required the attention of other contractors. The foreman, Rob, did a great job of communicating with me about the progress of the job and handled any unexpected challenges with ease. We are very happy with the overall quality of the work and will use them in the future.

We are very satisfied with our experience working with Kain Landscaping. They gave us an estimate and stuck to it. They showed up on time and completed the work in just two days. They cleaned up after themselves and left our yard properly graded so that runoff water will now flow into the catch basins they installed and then through a pipe into the back of our property. My wife and I are already discussing plans to use them for some stone work on our back patio.

Niel arrived on schedule for an estimate. He beat the competitor's price (who was also found on Angie's List). He was professional and courteous. His team arrived on schedule to complete the work and did a fully professional job installing a landing outside of the basement door and also patching up areas where water had seeped in through the basement flooring (above and beyond their job). I intend to use their services again soon. Super professional, on-time, great quality and very nice!

The estimate provided was spot on and the hardscape looks as good today as the day they placed the last stone. All a testiment to Quality, Expertise and Professionalism. I could not be happier with the results. My small backyard is now beautiful and I don't regret one penney spent on the project. Both Neil and his foreman, Robert, are great designers and I have never encountered anyone as knowledgeable about plants as Neil. I am an amateur gardener and Neil introduced me to several plants that I was completely unfamiliar with. He also searched high and low to find the perfect size tea olive tree that I had always wanted. Dwarf mondo grass is planted in between the bluestone pieces, resulting in a lovely woodland feel that should be able to hold up to my two little terriers running over it. Kain also perfectly matched the slate on my patio so that it is extremely difficult to identify the extension, even though the existing patio is over six years old. The results of the project is a complete delight. The crew was completely professional, showed up when promised, and worked very, very hard almost without a break. They paid great attention to detail, including water drainage issues. Kain also guarantees its plants for a year. As I said, I am a highly satisfied customer and would not hesitate to use them again or to recommend them highly to a friend.

Kain Landscape took our backyard to a new level. The landscaping work they did around the pool was amazing and well designed. They took a muddy, straw covered yard and created an oasis, and they were able to do it very quickly and efficiently. Neil took the time to explain the amount of care & water the different types of trees, plants and sod needed in order to thrive. We would recommend Kain Landscaping to anyone looking to do anywhere from simple projects to total transformational projects. They really know their stuff and they are absolute professionals!!

The backyard of our property has a dramatic dropoff toward a low lying natural, wooded area and finally a creek. In the last couple of years it has become apparent that even with landscaping to maintain the soil, we were fighting a losing battle and gravity and runoff were going to win. I just about had to rappel down to the flat spot where the gas grill sat and things weren't going to improve by themselves.
Neil Kain came over to assess the situation and immediately prescribed three retaining walls to terrace our yard. He worked around the existing very large crape myrtles and at the same time planned to remove for construction then replace some junipers, hydrangeas and nandinas.
To bring things back up to where they used to be and also to create for us a reasonable backyard, it was estimated that we would need 75 to 85 cubic yards of soil backfill. The retaining walls were planned to be close to 200' total with an average height of a little over 3'. This was going to be a very large project.
My great desire was to end up with a good setup for feeding the birds. I'd always wanted a hardscaped place for the bird feeders so (ideally) the sunflower shells would be swooshed away by the rain. I also knew it would be nice to have a level place for the grill and a path to it.
The plan for the patio for birdfeeding and the smaller, separate patio for the grill evolved as the project moved along. Neil is a birder, too, and he immediately "got it" when I described what I was after.
They also replaced the existing concrete step and landing out of the back porch which had never been to code. The new landing and step have a veneer of the same flagstone as the patios and there are matching flagstone treads/stepping stones from the landing to each of the new patios.
To manage drainage and runoff for the "new" yard, they replaced some existing corrugated drain pipe (from the gutters) with (smooth) PVC pipe and installed two new catch basins.
Finally, the "new" yard was graded and rolled, they installed sod and planted lots of perennials between the house and the grass. Who knew we had a Better Homes and Gardens backyard waiting to be revealed out there? Neil and his guys did just that.
FULL DISCLOSURE: Kain Landscaping has done the maintenance on our yard for years and years. Knowing their integrity and the quality of their work, we did not seek competitive bids which is really mandatory if budget is high on your list of qualifiers.
Neil's guys just came and WORKED for about 12 straight days on our project. Neil was in and out regularly and was 100% accessible via the phone whenever I had a question or as we were working out the details as the project came along.
Finally, a not-insignificant complication regarding this project is that we have a CRAZY neighbor. We're not talking a little eccentric, we're talking Ernest T. Bass-level of crazy. (Different from Ernest T., but Ernest T.-level.) Neil's guys have known of this and dealt with these neighbors for years. You will think I am overreacting but it is honestly a testament to their professionalism that they haven't told us that it just isn't worth the trouble to keep working here and putting up with the aggravation from over the fence.

The entire job from start to finish went beautifully. And the end result was even better than we were expecting. Neil and Robert, his lead supervisor, kept us apprised every step of the way and sought our feedback each day. They have a wealth of experience between them and are extremely passionate about their profession and workmanship. Unhappy about some of the timbers and stepping treads provided by their vendor, they refused to use the shoddy materials and returned them for replacements. Neil even offered to stop by while we were away to water some of the newly installed sod that our current irrigation system wouldn't reach. Service like that is hard to find, especially after you've paid the bill.
