Home Depot will get the job done and done right, just plan for a little comedy from start to finish. For starters, I had to make two requests for an estimate. The sales associate in the store said on my first request that Home Depot would call within 24 hours. I happen to be in the store getting something else about 48 hours later, so I decided it might be a good time to make a second request for a sales call. In this economy? Seems like they'd be all over it the first time. Wasn't a big deal, but I didn't like having to ask twice. After I had signed a contract with Home Depot, I received four calls within the next couple of weeks from different Home Depot people asking me if I wanted to set an appointment for an estimate. My wife finally told the last caller that if we received another call for an estimate, we would cancel the contract we already had. The sales representative who came to our home and with whom I signed the contract was professional and seemed to understand roofing well, but he insisted on a particular brand and type of shingle, even though Home Depot sells other brands and types. He brought no other samples with him. When I asked about other types, such as architectural shingles, he simply shrugged and said, "Well, it will cost you about $2000 more." I could afford to spend that, and I was bothered that he seemed to dislike the idea of any other shingle but the one he presented. I felt like I had to do my own research to find out about other options and to compare the quality of the shingle he presented before I decided I would keep the contract. I had nearly decided to call it quits at that point. Next came the job supervisor, who was supposed to come by appointment. Instead, he showed up announced and at an inconvenient time. He said he tried to call ahead but received no answer. I saw on his paperwork that he had both my phone numbers written correctly, cell and home, yet I had no calls, call records or voice mails indicating he had tried to reach me. (I suppose I should have my phones checked.) I rescheduled him for the next day and he did show up and showed up on time. I walked the house with him and expressed concerns about a few particular areas. That seemed to go OK. Home Depot delivered the waste container and materials as scheduled. The roofers showed up as scheduled, but not without a little confusion. I walked outside and in my driveway are four guys in an unmarked van who said they were from some roofing company I had never heard of and were here to put a new roof on my house. I told them I had contracted with Home Depot, and not only then did they explain they were the Home Depot subcontractors. I suspected that was the case, but it was a little scary at first. I also had to re-explain concerns to the workers that I had voiced to the job supervisor, who was not present for the roof replacement. The job supervisor's visit remains a mystery to me. Shortly after the roofers began work, I got a call from Home Depot asking me to move my car from the garage so it wouldn't get damaged. I explained that the garbage container, the workers van, and all the workers' tools and materials were behind my car, so moving it (without driving through my living room wall) would be impossible. She seemed confused, apologetic, and hung up. Cleanup was good, and the roofers assured me the waste container would be picked up the next day, Saturday. A Home Depot representative then called Saturday to ask me how the work was going. I told him the roof was finished (at least that's what the roofers said) but I needed the waste container removed right away. He said it wouldn't be picked up until Monday. Other than that, the job they did is, as far as I can tell, just peachy. I would tell others who are planning to use Home Depot to expect it will get the job done and done right, but keep a sense of humor; the left hand never seems to know what the right is doing. One other thing: if you're paying by check, Home Depot will want you to sign an agreement to let it to debit your account directly. I can understand why they do, but remember that a roofing contract is somewhat open-ended; there may be unforeseen conditions that cost more. You're relying on Home Depot's good graces not to take advantage of that debit ability by doing more work than is necessary. I don't think Home Depot would take advantage of anyone, but if I had it to do over again I would pay by credit card in case of a dispute, then if all is well pay off the balance at the end of the month.

They came out and did an estimate of our roof and it was accurate. I wasn?t around when they installed the roof and they also promised to do a few extra things that were not related to the roof and they did it. It looks and feels like a good job. Their prices were a little on the higher side.

They did a fantastic job on installing my new roof and it only took them two days to do this. I m covered for 30 years because GAS materials were used and I had an inspector come and check it out. It wasn t the cheapest now, but in the long run it will be.
