Critter Shield

We came across Jorge and Critter Shield on Yelp. We had been dealing with substantial drywall and insulation damage resulting from a raccoon infestation. We needed to have animal exclusion, drywall repair, and insulation removal, cleanup and replacement work done. We performed our due diligence and talked to multiple clients, but Jorge’s honesty and professionalism stood out the most. He was willing to work with our budget and gave us a very fair price for the work that needed to be done. Throughout the project, he was always available when we needed him. He even suggested a couple of other fixes around the house that were unrelated to what he was working on. During our drywall repair, the spackling and painting wasn’t to our specifications. We brought this to Jorge’s attention, and he immediately apologized and took ownership. Then, on the morning that the drywall cleanup was supposed to take place, painter that he had originally given the job to called our sick, so Jorge took it upon himself to make some calls and find a last-minute replacement, who did a fantastic job. As a further show of good faith, he gave us additional insulation beyond what was originally agreed to at no additional cost. We were very pleased with the final product. Jorge is very knowledgeable, thorough and responsive to his customers’ needs, and stands behind the quality of his work. We would recommend him without hesitation to anyone who needs animal removal or insulation work done on their house.

I experienced a bit of a bait and switch from this business. The deal was supposed to be $99 for rodent inspection AND treatment , including a rodent control plan. Instead I was given a choice of EITHER inspection and some tips on how to treat the rats, OR treatment that included setting down baited traps. The fine print on my deal: "Complete interior and exterior evaluation of your home to determine the presence and cause of any rodent activity; Installation of rodent control plan specific to your home's needs; Setting and baiting traps using a variety of proven methods; Technician will return one or two more times as necessary within 30 days to replace and/or relocate traps." The technician said he could not afford to give away his services for $99 and offered to either do a walkaround the house and point out to me likely places where rats were entering my home, or to put down traps, but not both. He noted that just putting down traps without rodent-proofing the home would accomplish little, as the rats would just return. Noting that his logic was sound, and that I had already paid for the service, and the choice he was giving me, I opted for his sharing his expertise. After his inspection he pointed out several places where I could use brick and mortar, steel wool or hardware cloth to seal gaps in the exterior. Or he said he could come back and do it for $700, and that he would charge another $500-$600 to inspect, seal and treat the attic (which was not included in this inspection, but could be another point of entry for rats). After his visit, over a couple of weekends, I sealed the gaps he had pointed out, spending about $50 on materials, and 4-5 hours on the work. I set 10 traps in my basement and kitchen (where I'd seen rats/rat poop), caught 6 rats. It has been several weeks now and I've not seen (or heard) any more rats. So, bottom line, his advice was definitely helpful, but the services rendered were not as advertised. Don't offer a whole-house inspection, treatment and plan for $99 if you don't intend to actually provide all of it.

Old house.. critters find new ways in! Jorge and Rolando do terrific work. Trap and remove the animals. Exclude them from the house from the new ways they create to get in. Very reasonable prices. Stand behind their work. Very workmanlike and attractive results. Does general handyman jobs too. I'll use them again and again.

Very thorough and impressed with the team. No signs of squirrels since. Lifetime warranty was a plus!

Critter Shield inspected our attic and outside of house, but said they could not find anything. We insisted there was something in the house, but because they did not see trackings in the attic, it was mentioned if there was something, it would have to die in the wall. That was not an option for us. No further services were suggested. Since we continued to hear noises, we hired another company, not through Angie's list. We were informed there was an issue with something in the house, and had it resolved and taken care of through the other company.

He said he could come by and do an inspection because they Groupon covered one type of service (animal removal) and not the other and he couldn't really advise if we should purchase it until he did the inspection. He actually came a day early and spent at least an hour going over everything and then didn't even charge us!!! Apparently we didn't have critters after all. Super nice and very thorough - especially since he didn't make any $ off the deal. He truly wanted to help us...so rare in this world today!!! Would highly recommend!!!!

With their perseverance finally gone

Critter Shield was able to come out quickly which helped give our buyers peace of mind. They inspected our attic and gutters and were able to give an inspection report that was satisfactory to our buyers. We did not need to purchase additional services.

Jorge Villarreal, of Critter Shield, removed the nest and fashioned screwed-in, custom-made screen covers for both collection boxes on my gutter system to prevent this from happening again. Mr. Villarreal was a super-nice guy, on-time, and did the job for a very reasonable charge. Highly recommend!

Service was good and he provided good information.  He placed traps and came back once.  All in all, pretty uneventful.  No pests were caught.

It went really well, we are critter free. I haven't had any problems after they came out. Their timeliness stood out. They responded very quickly.

Critter Shield did an excellent job of explaining their service.  They walked us around the outside of our house, identifying the numerous tiny places where the rats were entering, both at ground level and higher up.  They sealed these entryways, which took nearly a full day of work, thus keeping out new critters and, simultaneously, locking in the rats who had taken up residence in our basement, walls and attic.  Our resident rats had learned to avoid the traps we were laying.  Critter Shield set new traps.  The traps were just ordinary spring traps.  However, the locked-in rats were forced to choose between starving or going for the bait.  They went for the bait.  Critter Shield followed up over three visits to inspect and remove (all) the dead rats.  Six months have now passed.  Problem solved.  It seemed expensive at first ($1300+), but was actually reasonably priced, given the amount of work involved and the size and age of our house (2500+ sq. ft.; 60 years old).  In the end, it was worth it.  Our efforts at trapping the rats were not working, because ... rats really are pretty smart.

Great.  First, we took estimates from 3-4 Angie's List top contractors.  All gave very good and detailed estimates.  Some aspects were apples to oranges comparisons, but Jorge and Crittershield seemed to fit our scope best. They also had the best price. Went great.  He did the work himself.  Came back afterwards. Cleaned up well.
