Ken came out on the same day that I called - a cold winter's day and New Year's Eve, because my furnace was not working.
He evaluated the furnace and charged me $88 for the housecall/labor and $96 for the part.
I have used Ken for over 7 years and during that time he has replaced air conditioners, furnaces, A/C condensers, and done repair work.
He has always done an excellent job and I have the utmost confidence in his capabilities and his integrity.
A few days later I was down in the basement and noticed a piece of tape on the side of the unit blowing in wind - the sealing tape had come away from the unit. Upon further investigation, an entire side had never been taped - the wind was easily felt with an open palm.
I called Ken and tried to diplomatically ask why this was either not discovered or discovered but not repaired. Ken said that the air loss was minimal and sealing it would not help the temperature in the master bedroom. When asked if air loss at the unit would go against efficiency, Ken replied "I did alot of other work that I didn't charge you for." It was at this point the conversation ended.
Needless to say, we hired a different a/c company to come make the repair. They discovered and showed me air loss under the insulation wrapping where the original venting metal had never been properly sealed. They used tape & mastic to seal that vent, the side where it was obvious as well as the old tape that had come unglued.
If Ken had shown me the issue and given me the option to add the repair to my "once over," I would've gladly paid more for a thorough job.
