Auto Service
ACAPULCO'S is a small, NO FRILLS, neighborhood shop. NO waiting room, NO snack bar, NO free wifi, NO courtesy car drop off, etc., etc., etc. it is NOT much to look at. but, If you want honest, high quality, prompt, competent, professional service, at very, very reasonable prices, look NO further!
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!
i spoke to the owner, felix palma, last week to discuss the details/estimate & set up the monday morning appt. today, i arrived @ 0800 to allow my car to cool down, then pulled into the shop @ 0900. They said it would take about 2 hours. I left ACAPULCO'S at 0915, in 1hr +15min. That included running the car for 5 minutes checking for leaks (oil & fuel) and paying the bill. I observed the entire process from outside the bay. i paid $90, LABOR ONLY!
check around and see what other shops are charging for a simple tuneup on a four cylinder. i'll bet few, if any can touch what i paid, let alone complete the work in under 1.5hrs, from drop off. remember, my total was ~ $200, parts(mine) + labor, TOTAL! don't forget, ACAPULCO'S removed and replaced spark plugs, spark plug wires, oil, oil filter, air filter, fuel filter and cleaned battery terminal.
ACAPULCO owner, felix palma, answered all my questions and accommodated my every request. ACAPULCO'S has been at this location since 2001 and the mechanic who worked on my car has been w/ felix since the beginning. prior to that he worked at a chevy dealership.
ACAPULCO'S specializes in catalytic convertors, axles, clutches, brakes, tires and shocks. there is a 1 year warranty on all work they do, WHEN ACAPULCO PROVIDES the parts. they do most normal maintenance, but, if it is NOT those listed above/on their card, you will be asked to provide your own parts. they do NOT have the time to leave the shop to purchase parts they do not specialize in - they stay very, very busy. during the hour, i was there, their 2 bay shop serviced 5 other customers - 2 catalytic converters, 1muffler & oil change, 2 tires, 1 tire repair. they count on volume!
NOTE - if you provide your own parts, they warranty ONLY their labor. if you provide your own part(s) and it is defective, you will have to deal w/ your supplier on your own - same as other shops!
purchasing your own parts saves money, provided you are somewhat fluent in "car care / maintenance." if you are NOT "fluent" in "car care," i suggest you stick to original equipment manufacturer (oem) vs after market parts. DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH on the subject, particularly, if your vehicle is still under manufacturer's warranty .
NOTE - while i was there, another customer who was just leaving, said he paid $280 to remove & replace a catalytic converter on his 2002 6 cyl chevy silverado. midas quoted $850-900, while another unknown shop quoted $510.
summarizing, if you want a pretty shop, w/ a nice air conditioned waiting area, complete w/ free wifi, free coffee, tv & courtesy vehicle...ACAPULCO'S is NOT for you! on the other hand, if you want honest, reliable, experienced, professional and timely work done on your vehicle...run to ACAPULCO'S. your wallet will thank you!
i normally do a lot of research before selecting a business and i'm not shy about editing a review for recent developments. i confess that i didn't check business licenses/insurance for ACAPULCO'S. i accepted word of mouth testimony of a trusted acquaintance, together w/ a quick google search and personal observation of the shop during my initial visit.
I will be reconsidering my review of Catherine's Auto, based on their high quote for this and another recent quote. I will also be posting a very positive review on Duncan's Automotive, near howell mill & i85, shortly.
i choose businesses w/ a smaller angie's list profile, if any at all, in an effort to find higher quality and lower price points. i will pay slightly more for a smaller, mom & pop store, where service is customer driven.
i must apologize for my first review, A-Frame Home Remodeling, which has since gone out of business. apparently, he was so swamped after my review in feb '13, that his small shop could not handle the volume, nor the high expectations of angie's list customers, amongst other variables. if i remember correctly, i was one of the 1st 20 of 100+ members to review A-Frame.
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!
