Insurance Agencies
When we first moved to Georgia I contacted State Farm insurance to buy auto and homeowners insurance. My agent was Mike Dekle. Although I can't remember ever actually working with Mr. Dekle personally, I did purchase policies with one of the other agents. My experience was satisfactory until several years ago when I got an agent that was terrific. I was able to work with this agent every time I called the office and he was great. Several months ago when I called I was told that he'd left the agency and I was given another agent. Since my daughter was using one of my cars and she'd moved to another state for a year, I asked if she could buy her insurance in that state while keeping my registration in Georgia. I was told there was no problem. My daughters agent contacted Mike Dekle's office here and they transferred the car insurance to the other state. 4 weeks later I was contacted by the State of Georgia that my auto registration was about to be cancelled . When I called the registration office and told them the car was not uninsured but insured in another state, I was told that the car has to have Georgia insurance to keep the Georgia registration. Additionally, there was a $25 fine for having a car registered in Georgia without Georgia insurance. When I called Mike Dekle's office about this, I was told that "the laws are different in every state". I told the agent that I didn't care about "every state" I cared about Georgia and thought she should have known the law in Georgia. No offer to pay the $25 for giving me the wrong information, information she should have known as part of her job, and not even an apology. We cancelled the insurance in the other state, I went into the insurance office and re-bought the EXACT same policy I had before I cancelled the Georgia insurance, went and payed the $25 fine. A few weeks later I got another bill from State Farm for another $116. When I called to see what that was about, I was told I hadn't filed the form for "low mileage usage " when I applied for the insurance. Since I wanted the exact same policy I had before, the agent should have seen this and given me the form when I was buying the policy. I asked to speak to Mike Dekle himself. He was borderline rude and treated me in such a condescending manner it was hard for me to hold my temper. I told him about the problem with transferring the policy to another state, and he told me I should have just registered the car in that state. When I told him I can't do that since there is still a lien on the car his comment was "that other agent was just lazy and he should have figured out what to do". Then he said I should have called his office before canceling the policy and I told him I DID check with his office before doing anything and I was told it was fine to do what I did. And I'd paid the $25 for his office giving me misinformation. Then I told him about the additional $116 for not filling out the "low mileage use form" and he again snarled at me that I should have come into the office to re-buy the policy. When I told him I did come in the office and I had not sent the signed forms through the mail he just changed the subject. He said that since I'd now filled out that form I would get a rebate for the "low mileage usage" from the time they registered the form. I said "and you will pay the extra amount still due since it was the failure of your agent to give me the form to sign when I bought the policy" and after much complaining, he said he'd contact State Farm and call me back. He NEVER called back, but it didn't really matter since the next day I went and bought new policies from American Family Insurance for better coverage and less cost and cancelled all my insurance with State Farm. Mike Dekle definitely has trouble dealing with women clients and certainly doesn't seem to care about the quality of the agents he employs. After 24 years of being his client I'd have expected better.
