However, about a month ago I took my car there for a general tune-up. One of the areas they check was my tires. They gave them the "green check" on the sheet. That night, as I was half way to Charleston, SC from Athens, GA, the tread on one of my tires completely blew off. The tire itself somehow stayed inflated, but the tread was completely gone - blew off leaving the wires and innner casing exposed. Do not trust them to "inspect" your car properly.
Otherwise, I've taken my vehicle there for general maintenance, and it's been ok.
I noticed routine services taking longer and the courteousness of the service department diminishing. The only reason I continued taking my car there is because I felt the quality of work was still great and I had already established a long term relationship with the business. They began telling me that my tires were "hazardous" to keep driving on and quoted me an OUTRAGEOUS price for tires. I asked a few of my family members to visually inspect the tires with me since I felt all of us have a good understanding of general car maintenance and what to look for when it is time to replace tires. Everyone's opinion was the tires were fine and still had a good bit of wear left to them. This was in 2010. The tires are still on my vehicle and I had the vehicle professional serviced last week and the tires were rotated and balanced and they checked out fine. They are 70,000 mile tires and Phil Hughes started pressuring me to purchase tires at 50,000 miles. They did this the last couple of times I went there. They also told me my battery failed the charge test and they were going to install one for $125. They seemed very disgruntled when I declined the service and told them I would install a new one myself that day. The last problem was my airbag light came on and would not go off. I consulted my owner's manual and a couple of websites and determined it was the seat belt tensioner. It states in all Honda vehicle manuals that any issues with the seat belts, safety system or related parts are covered with a lifetime warranty from Honda. I made an appointment with Phil Hughes and they said they were going to run a diagnostic test on the car to ensure it was the tensioner. When I arrived, the technician I checked in with said it would be $90 for the test. I questioned why would I be paying for the test when any issues arise with the seat belts to the car they are covered under the warranty. He then informed me that if it was an issue with the saftey system then it would be covered. It only seems logical that the airbag light would be on if there was a problem with the safety features of the car. I told him to go ahead with the test but I wanted to speak to the manager since a Honda dealership was going to charge me for a service that is covered under a Honda lifetime warranty. He quickly ran the test and told me it was in fact the tensioner, so there were no charges for the service. I didn't request for the manager again since I wanted to get out of there as quickly as possible. I felt that he tried to take advantage of me and since I am an informed customer once again they were not able to pocket extra and unnecessarily spent money from me.
