ONE PRICE DRY CLEANING

I gave One Price Dry Cleaning a pair of slacks and sport jacket to be cleaned and pressed. The price of these items at time of purchase was over $200.00. I suppose they are now worth $150.00--or $100.00, or $75.00. In any case, the company lost my slacks and jacket.  After many telephone calls, I was given the phone number of the provider, one Mr. Shah.  He asked me how he could be certain that the value I ascribed to the items was the true value.  Was I not inflating the price in order to cheat him?  I asked how I could be certain he did not take the items and sell them--or give them to the Salvation Army for a tax deduction. Mr. Shah replied that a statement on the back of the receipt indicated that his liability for loss cannot exceed ten times the processing charge, which was $4.50.  This liability is limited to service, not refund. In other words, IF Mr. Shah grants me a full "reimbursement" of $45.00, I must give him $45.00 worth of future dry cleaning in order to receive it.  
Mr. Shah offered no apology for losing my belongings. In fact, he was belligerent, and not only questioned my honesty but for some reason wanted me to be assured that he had a degree in chemistry from some university.
Bottom line: One Price Dry Cleaning offers service at a low price, but you get the kind of service you pay for.  As to courtesy, a South Philadelphia fast food place, compared to Mr. Shah, is the epitome of gentility.
If I actually get a $45.00 reimbusement I'll add an addendum to my note.
