There was no problem with the materials used, and the installers were nice enough. They covered up their work area well, and made quick word of removing the existing carpet and hardware. They installed plain white risers, but left noticeable gaps where the stair riser sides weren't exactly 90 degrees. Sure it would take a few minutes more to cut the risers exactly, but they sure didn't take the time. Next they started installing some floor boards that weren't even close to the existing stain. Even though I had approved the stain color, it was the same type as wood as my floor, but the stain was allowed to soak in too long. They pretty much fixed it by sanding it down more, but the salesperson 'Mike' talked like the finishing guy was a pro. The finishing guy is a real amateur, there a bit more involved finishing wood well that he just doesn't understand. 'Mike' also talked up their finish and even on the contract it mentions 3 coats of poly...My version of 3 coats of poly is a lot different. Mine is 80% smooth, theirs is 40%. And not to mention they got over-spray on my hardwood floor. They masked to spray, but not far enough. There's also drips of stain all over every wall by the stairs, and on some of the risers they just installed. Also, these guys don't know how to fill a hole properly, there's little craters everywhere. When I asked if they were going to 'caulk-in' or fill the holes in they white trim they added, the guy snarkily answers where is it in the contract. Silly me, expecting you to install white trim completely. Also they called up halfway wanting another payment of 30%, nothing over the original quote. But I've always done 50/50. This wasn't explained by Mike during the estimate period, but sure enough, there's a link mentioned of the estimate that spells this out. Its not like we don't have the money, but surprising me with this irritated me to say the least. Finally, the job took twice as many days as estimated and I always had to toss somebodies take-out coffee cup most days after they left. I would've complained more about these issues during the job, but It was obvious these installers are just that, installers and not craftsman, I just wanted them done with what they were going to do and out of my house after four days. I like the materials, but unless you have home improvement skills, I'd recommend looking elsewhere.

After some initial cajoling to get an estimate and on when they could do the job, all went well. They did a great job and we love the finished result.

Great service, quick, on-time...and attention to detail.  We have already recommended them to a couple of our friends...one who has also had their balusters replaced.  We get complimented about them all the time.  If you are a thinking about changing your balusters, go with this company.  They have a shop in Alpharetta you can go to and actually view the balusters and options, that is highly valuable.  The transformation to our house was amazing...much better than we even thought it would be.

Awesome.  Could not have been a better experience.  We were SLOW to make decisions.  We probably made them wait on us for 5 months from the first time we contacted them.  They were so patient.  They continued to follow up to check in.  Finally when we were ready to go they were ready too.  Mike the owner came out when we initially called to talk to us, do measurements and make suggestions on what we should do.  We really did not have a clue and he was so helpful and really guided us through the process.  He had great ideas, listened to what we had to say and really looked at the style of the rest of the house to bring it all together.  We had him tweak one part of the quote, and he did it happily.  We got 3 other quotes and he was bar far the one we felt the best about.  He just was always so nice, professional, had great follow through, very knowledgeable and overall made us feel like he was the best choice.  Didn't hurt that his price was great too!
Right before I emailed to say 'let's do it', I also checked Angie's List.  And sure enough 99.9% of the other reviews said the same thing, so we went with them.  They just did the install yesterday and it went great.  His crew were very professional and courteous.  They had a question during the install and Mike came right out to the house to make sure everyone was on the same page.  We could not be happier with the result.
There are many stair/railing companies out there and I am sure some are good as well, but my experience says go with what's known and I am here to say Mike at Stair Solutions is awesome!
Thank you for everything.  We are extremely happy customers!

Mike provided advice on materials and installation process via email and phone since it was challenging for me to get to the showroom during my research stage.  Mike listened to determine what I was trying to do and helped me find a solution.  He was quick to offer solutions and send me brochures, pictures and web links.    Once I decided on the product, I visited the showroom and used the displays to pick out the porch railing style and color with Cathy.   I found both Cathy and Mike to be professional, efficient and resourceful.    If you need to replace those rotten pressure treated railings and spindles that the builders install with a long term, maintenance free solution that looks great, call Mike at Stair Solutions.

We initially contacted them via email to request an estimate.  We provided pictures and worked with a representative to work out what we wanted.  There was some initial confusion as we weren't able to fully articulate what we wanted via email (we didn't know the lingo and had a hard time seeing the detail in their gallery pictures online) so we weren't comfortable making a commitment because we felt the representative didn't understand what we wanted and insisted our stairs were much larger than they were.  We just weren't understanding each other.  Once we visited the showroom and could look at samples in person and talk through the pictures with another representative (only because the first rep we talked to wasn't available at the time we got to the showroom), we felt we were understood quickly and were able to get on the same page - then we felt comfortable committing to the job.  The reps were always polite and professional.  The on site team were very courteous, considerate and professional.  They performed the job in 4 hours.  They laid down mats all around the area where they were working including a path to the stairs from the main door, in order to protect all the surfaces.  They asked a few questions to clarify the job before they started, to ensure they met expectations.  They left everything clean and tidy when they were done.  We are very happy with the end result and would recommend them to others.  Our railings are absolutely beautiful.

The crew removed the old staircase banisters and newel posts and installed new stained banisters and newel posts which were stained to match the existing hardwood steps and floors. They also installed new wrought iron spindles. They were efficiently in their work and cleaned up when the job was complete. They also were careful with the steps and floors.

Out of all the contractors I used to renovate my 1940's brick home, Stair Solution, was the one shining exception, proving that specialists can be both prompt, professional, transparent, and easy to work with. I was very specific with my budget limitations and they created a plan that worked for me, and went the extra mile and put insulation underneath the staircase. Work was done within one day!
I would recommend these guys to everyone I know. Don't let a general contractor do your stairs, call in the experts!

The measure/quote was extremely professional.
Five days later, the crew arrived, protected everything, and proceeded the remove the old 3 level staircase.
They attached the new newel posts, measured angles, cut, glued, sanded, and attached the the railing.
They then adjusted the the height of the balusters and installed them.
They refinished the railing and applied 3 coats of polyurethane.
Finally, they cleaned up, collected the check and departed.
We are really pleased with the work.

Excellent from ordering to installation. Kathy the sales lady provided ideas and had a very pleasant demeanor. She sent an email with diagrams, cost estimate and installation date. The installation guys arrived as schedule with a call before hand. The installation was done in a professional way with the work site left clean. Perfect all the way around. We are delighted with our new balusters.

They did not waste anytime and the cut and stained all material on-site. Absolute professionalism.

"Thank you for your review. Kathy and the Installation Team work hard to deliver quality projects. Ordering stair parts in advance, then staging the project including pre-stains in our shop allow the Crew to install with less time onsite. This allows more time for the details. We appreciate your business."

Quality of work: great. Really happy with the work. We had a carpenter install the first time and ultimately had those iron balusters removed because of poor quality (install and material). The current install from Stair Solution was much better.
Cost: decent. They were a little more than handymen, but they did a much better
Professionalism: poor. The guys who performed the work were great, but Kathy Westmoreland (who runs the office) was embarrassingly unprofessional. First of all, Stair Solution refused to visit my house for a quote, instead Kathy asked for pictures to base her estimate. This required an unnecessary amount of work on my end: I took pictures, sent them, she attempted to count the number of balusters (they were already removed, so we only had holes), her count was wrong so we iterated until things seemed right (but of course, neither of us really knew because she had never seen them, and I was out of town as we iterated on the count).
We also had a problem with the work. I initially sent a request asking for a quote that included top shoes and bottom shoes. Kathy provided a quote (really just a price in an email text - not a pdf). We iterated on that price as the baluster count changed, she sent another price in an email, which I agreed to (again in an email text - not a pdf). It turns out, there as an "unwritten understanding" that neither price included top shoes because "we never add them" and we should "focus on the design." This is despite selling top shoes in their store. Problem is that I did not realize the unrequested change until during the install (otherwise, their bid vs. others was not an apples-to-apples comparison since that's nearly $100 in parts).
The workers called Kathy, who apparently said something to the effect of "tough luck". However, when I asked her to call me via email and though the works, and when I called the store 4 times, she refused to answer. All she did was send an email saying "We cannot change the job" and refused to reply to additional emails. The workers said that either she or the owner (Mike) were the only ones who could fix anything. So we sat there, in a stand-off: the workers unable to add the top shoes without Kathy or Mike's approval, I was unwilling to pay without speaking to Mike or Kathy or without top shoes, and Kathy refusing to speak to me (to remind you: she answered when workers called, but did not answer when my phone number came up on the caller ID).
It's really a shame - I've heard good things about this company. If everything works out perfectly, they're a good place to do business. But if there's any mistake at all, expect the cold shoulder and 0 customer service.

"Our quality and Professionalism should be “A”. When [member name removed] contacted Stair Solution, he told us he fired another installer for many reasons including: loss confidence, using the wrong materials and they did not have a method to install extended length Custom Iron Balusters. After reviewing all Communications with [member name removed], there was never a mention of using Top Bannister Shoes; the item was not listed on the Estimate nor the Invoice. Our Showroom includes fourteen (14) Staircase Displays with NO Top Bannister Shoe. We do not recommend the top shoe unless specified. In contacting us [member name removed] required the best/cheapest price and a weekend installation. Saturday we have Showroom hours from 10am to 2pm, but because one person handles the Showroom we typically are not available to handle telephone calls. After the installation was “complete” [member name removed] (home all day and watching the installation progress) asked why Top Shoes were not installed and he told the Crew to remove the Iron (very strange). When the Crew contacted me I authorized an additional discount of $ 100 which pleased [member name removed]. Important to note; in future reviews, please do not use employee’s full names. Privacy is an utmost concern and they need not have their names plastered all over the Internet."

Seeing the good reviews on Angie’s List, I asked my daughter to contact Stair Solution for an estimate on remodeling stairs inside our house. What a super company! My daughter spoke with Cathy and Mike, in the office, and was very impressed with their helpfulness. To our amazement, once the decision was made to proceed, the installation was scheduled within the same week; and on a Saturday, even! The two workers that handled the install were courteous and professional. And they made sure to protect all of our things. We love our new staircase!!!!

They repaired one of the loose rails which was about to fall off. I rate them very highly and I would use them again in the future if needed to.
