The windows themselves are good, and the installers were friendly. The installation itself is where the problems occurred. They put vinyl covering over the wood window frames outside the house, but didn't seal them. So instead of protecting the existing wood frames, they are just trapping moisture that is now going to rot the frames. They also decided to be nice and put our blind hardware back up. I really wish they hadn't. Rather than putting them back where they came from and where there were already holes, they drilled new holes and mounted them wherever they felt like, and stripped the screws in the process. The spacing was all off, the blinds wouldn't fit, and we had to drill the stipped screws out of the window frames to move the hardware back where it had been. It took longer to fix this screw up than the entire window installation took, and now we have permanent holes in the window frames. The windows themselves are good. The installers really need better training.

The workers did an excellent job. I watched them very closely, and they didn't mind my questions and observations. They went above and beyond the terms of the contract by pressure washing and painting my retaining walls and pressure washing my patio and steps without my asking. They cleaned up every evening. I had researched paint and caulk products on Consumer Reports and requested the best-rated products, and they used them. On one side of my house, the roof trim was over 3 stories up, and they handled this height without problems.

A supervisor came out at the scheduled time and reviewed the project and provided a detailed free estimate. He explained everything to me. No money was requested up front. The company sent a great carpenter to do the work. It was obvious he knew what he was doing and was very skilled. The six windows being repaired had storm windows, which they had to remove first, including two very large 4' x 6' bay windows. The windows were 2 and 3 stories high. Then all the molding had to be pried off, including a plywood floor under the bay window which had also rotted. The framing on one of the bay windows was rebuilt from the inside out, and new molding was installed on all 6 windows, using the new plastic wood that never rots. The windows were caulked with the appropriate stucco caulk, pressure washed, and painted with my specifically requested paint product based on Consumer Reports recommendations. This project took 3 days, and the supervisor was on site several times each day to ensure that the work was being done correctly, as well as to ensure my satisfaction with the job's progress. There was a small additional charge for more extensive rebuilding of the bay window than originally anticipated, but that possibility had been mentioned in the original estimate. No money was required up front. I paid only after the job was completed to my satisfaction. The site was cleaned up.
