Due to me going out of town for Thanksgiving week, I didn't get back to them with the signed accepted proposal until around 12/5.
They called the following Wednesday and said they had an opening the next day, and I said that would be good. At 8:00 am on the button, their work crew arrived and got right to work. They were done by early afternoon, and did a very good job of not messing up shrubbery around the work area.
These people know what they are doing, and they do it very efficiently, well and for a reasonable price. I would definitely use them again for any future foundation problems, and recommend them highly.

Three weeks later the crew of three showed up promptly to do the work. The foreman was extremely professional, and took time to answer my many questions. The other two crew members were also very polite. I believe one of them had been with Atlas for over fifteen years. Like Wayne, they appeared very competent in what they were doing.
Two issues occurred that required minimal additional costs over the estimate. Apparently the previous owner of the home had attempted a fix to this problem by adding additional concrete to the outside of the original foundation wall. The crew had to use jack hammers to remove this concrete in the areas where the three piers were installed. Secondly, two cracks were found in the foundation wall that required the installation of metal plates prior to the lifting process. These two issues added $545.00 to the bill.
Once the work was completed, the crew did an excellent job of cleaning up the worksite.
All my contacts with the Atlas Piers office staff were pleasant and professional.
I interviewed three contractors for this job, and am very pleased that I selected Atlas!

Two problems - a garage floor that was cracking and a front porch that was pulling away from the entry door - prompted us to contact Atlas Piers. Wayne Farris came to the house and spent quite some time looking at the situation and explaining to us any options to correct the situation. Based on the excellent reputation of the company and Mr. Farris's obvious knowledge, we contracted with Atlas Piers to perform the needed work.
The two crews that were sent to the house were prompt and courteous. Unfortunately, the crew repairing the front porch or stoop encountered an unforeseen problem that resulted in there being two concrete and metal structures left protruding six to eight inches above the ground on either side of our stairs at the entrance to our home. There had been no mention that this was a possible result. What had been intended as work "to help the overall look of the stoop" has actually created a glaring eyesore that detracts considerably from the appearance.
We have sent Mr Farris pictures and explained that we are unable to leave the front of our house in this condition. In reply, the Operations Manager, Mr. Rambo, called to say that there are two other ways to correct the problem and quoted us a price for the work. This would basically mean that we would be expected to pay twice to achieve the results for which we originally contracted.
We appreciate the time Atlas Piers has taken with us but are disappointed that they would be willing to leave us in such an untenable situation. It is an embarrassment to us and reflects very poorly on their company.
I would like to send a copy of the pictures to supplement this information and illustrate the severity of the problem. Thank you for any suggestions or help you can give us in attempting to resolve this situation.

"Atlas was contracted to retrofit steel engineered foundation support products to a font stoop foundation, originally constructed when the home was first built, and to stabilize the two car garage slab with soil permeation grouting. The permeation grouting was successful and corrected where a previous company had failed to fix the problem, which had resulted in continuing settling. The front stoop was also successfully repaired and lifted by our certified installers. Unfortunately, the foundation beneath the stoop was constructed a bit shallow and exposed the top of the bracket above grade. When we were contacted by [member name removed] of the problem, we quickly provided him with 3 solutions. 1. A supplemental footing could be poured beneath the existing foundation and the piers could then be lowered below grade to hide the brackets. 2. Steel bearing plates and structural grout could be added above the brackets as a less expensive alternative to the first option and 3. Landscape timbers could be added with mulch to hide the brackets. [member name removed] informed us that he appreciated the recommendations, would talk to his wife, and let us know what he wanted to do. We never heard back from [member name removed] and did not receive a reply until we noticed his wife’s response on Angie’s List. Afterwards, we tried to offer to resolve the situation through [member name removed], but she refused all of our attempts to resolve this issue, insisting that her shallow foundation was somehow our fault and that we needed to cover 100% of the cost. We explain to our customers: steel engineered products, also known as piers, are retrofitted to the existing foundation. Rarely do piers extend above grade, as with this project, but they potentially can if it is constructed on a shallow foundation."
Overall it went very well. They started on time and took great care not to damage the siding which wasn't easy. Their equipment, labor and materials are excellent. The people in the office are very friendly and helpful. The final price I paid was exactly as quoted. I got another bid for this same exact job at $750 less, but chose Atlas because of their responsiveness and punctuality before the decision to hire them. I got 3 bids. Two of them, including Atlas, said we needed 2 piers, and the third one prescribed 3 piers at a much heftier price.
There were some things they could improve upon and this is the reason I gave a "B" instead of an "A" on professionalism.
1) Follow the specifications on the Quick-Crete. It says do not use below 40 degrees. It was 38 degrees when they mixed it.
2) When you are going to remove a small shrub and replant it afterwards, discuss with the homeowner who is just a knock on the door away. I would have preferred to dig it up properly and replant it myself. They didn't dig up a large enough root ball so it will probably die when it might have been saved.
3) When you dump out the remains of a wheelbarrow with concrete mix residue, ask the homeowner where to dump it. In this case they chose to dump it in a front yard bed, whereas, had I been asked, I would have chosen the inconspicuous pinestraw area on the side of the house.
4) Be sure the contract is signed by Atlas and sent back to the customer before the schedule job date.
5) Submit an accurate final bill the first time. That was promptly corrected.
"Dear [members name], Thank you for your response. I texted the foreman for your job (Brad) and this was his response: "I moved a tiny little plant out of the way so that I didn't run over it with our equipment. She was very appreciative that I did that and said "that's what gives you an "A" instead of a "B". She was very happy when I was there. " [Members name], we try very hard to make all of our customers happy and most do reward us with an A rating. I'm not sure why yours and Brads recollection of the days events differ. Question: Why such a low rating of "D" on price? I understood that we were able to save you money over the company wanting to install 3 piers, one more than was needed. And as far as the other bid goes, what most consumers don't realize is that we compete with local companies in Atlanta that have their products welded at local steel fabrication shops that do not provide any type of product warranty what-so-ever for those products. Our products however are back with a 25 year manufactures warranty as well as our 50 year installation warranty. In your case you were provided with one of the nations top engineered foundation support products by a manufacturer with more than 250 installing contractors throughout the U.S. (i.e., you received the Rolls Royce at a competitive price). Yes there are cheaper products our there, as I have mentioned, but there's usually a reason that they are priced so low. Most of our competitors do not even galvanize their products to protect from rust, some are reclaimed/used drill pipe from the oil industry and most of these products are not backed by anyone. I assure you that you received one of the highest rated products in the industry at a competitive price. Also, I do not recall the temperatures on the day that your work was performed, but 2 degrees would not make any difference because the concrete was poured on the ground which normally maintains a temperature of 55 degrees (i.e. Serves as a blanket). Usually, such warnings on the bags are for elevated slabs, like metal decks and concrete poured walls that are susceptible to freezing as there is freezing temperatures on every side. Your two 3' x 2' Sawcut areas were never in danger of freezing or we would have made a return trip when conditions were more favorable. Again thank you for the response and if you have any further concerns feel free to contact me at 770.740.0400 Kindest Regards, Wayne Farris"
