I called Joey Pike, the owner, after getting a referral from our next door neighbor. Joey had taken down some trees at the church where our neighbor works, and he cut down one two of our neighbor's trees. He came out within a couple of days to give us an estimate. We got two other estimates from Todd Chapman Trees ($950) and Payless Tree Service ($1000).
We called Joey on Thursday around 1:00 to let him know that we wanted him to do the work. He said he could come out within an hour. He brought his wife and two sons. They worked for about 3.5 hours cutting down the trees, chipping up the wood, and cleaning up. The stump grinder came back the next morning to grind the stumps. He contracts that out with another company.
Both Bradfords were hanging over privacy fences, so we were afraid that the branches would split during a storm and damage the fences. The trees were very big. While he was here, our neighbor's Bradford split in half due to some gusty winds. The large branch almost went through their window. It would have killed someone had it land on them. Joey went over and talked to our neighbor and he is over there right now taking down their Bradford.
He is a small family run business, so he doesn't have to pay the overhead that other tree service company's have to pay. His price was definitely much better. We paid him half when he finished up yesterday and then gave the other half to the stump grinder once he was finished this morning.
