I have read the other two reviews and the long winded one that gave a lower than straight A rating is off base. I subscribe to there service and they offer different services for different amounts. They offer Curb side pick up - no yard Clippings, Curb side with Grass and yard clippings, and even offer carport pickup for a small additional fee. Each service is priced accordingly. I defy the person who complained about a couple missed pick ups to even find another company that will pick up from the carport today. If the person was not paying for carport service that is why the trash can was not emptied, otherwise, gee the driver made an error, I am not perfect either. I strongly recommend there service and have not even compared prices because if I am out of town or forget to put the trash out the night before my can is always empty. P.S. I provide my own trash can too. They may have offered them at one time but not since I started using them over three years ago.
They are usually pretty good. The trash is collected by 9am twice per week (once/week recycling), and small piles of sticks/branches or bags of leaves/lawn clippings are taken as well (have to be in paper, not plastic). As others have said, on occasion, they'll come to the house to get a trash can that hasn't been put to the curb. The guys seem nice enough, and most interactions with the office aren't bad either.
However, its happened a few times where our trash just hasn't been picked up. Only 4 or so times over two years, but I think that's enough since its what we pay them to do. Just this morning, the recyclables were picked up but the trash can sat untouched until I called to bring it to their attention. Their payment system is archaic too, as they still require mailed coupon/payments and even a paper form to set up auto-debit payments, which is crazy in this day and age. I understand the cost savings on their end, but its at the expense of customer convenience that they not have an official web presence. We were also told when we first signed up that we'd have to buy our own receptacles, but we have seen others in our neighborhood with Hugh's-branded large trash bins, so its obvious they do offer them. And, I'm also not a fan of their 'holiday' pick-up. Give your people the day off on, at least, the major holidays!
Again, Hugh's isn't bad, but if they're the best value out there, I'd be very surprised. Its nice that they do some things at 'no extra cost' (though their prices are all over the place, so we may be 'paying' and not even know it), but I'd assume that there are other companies out there with comparable offerings while adding a bit more customer satisfaction into the equation. I'd say most people in our neighborhood don't use Hughes, so we may start having to ask around.
