"Manny replaced our old gutters with new seamless aluminum for a fair price as well as cleaning out and caulking the super gutter at no charge. He is a diligent and personable business owner. The new gutters make a big difference in the appearance of our house."

Small jobs welcome

"It is reassuring knowing there are professionals like Rob and his team at Gutter Hawk. They responded quickly, did the work as promised, and were respectful throughout the process I had Gutter Hawk redo the gutters that were previously put on the house - pitched wrong, leaking, and just shoddy workmanship. Gutter Hawk fixed the problems in an affordable and timely manner. I don't recommend many businesses but I am proud to recommend Gutter Hawk!"

"LeafFilter doesn't clean gutters, they sell and install their LeafFilter Gutter products and only clean the gutters if you buy their product. I can't even begin to afford their product so I wasn't able to get my gutter cleaned by them."

Gutter Cleaning questions, answered by experts

If you don't want to install gutter guards, the most common and inexpensive alternative is regular gutter cleaning, either annually, biannually, or as soon as they start to fill up. Using a leaf blower attachment can make this process easier. Other products designed to reduce cleanings include gutter screens (made of wire mesh, nylon, or foam), which are typically less expensive than a full gutter guard installation. You can also find guards and inserts designed specifically to protect your downspouts or opt for a whole gutter system like LeafGuard, which integrates the gutter and guard into a single product.

Yes, you can use a pressure washer to effectively clean debris, dirt, and grime from your gutters, but it must be done with caution to avoid damage. Always use a low-pressure setting, with a recommended range between 1,200 and 1,800 PSI. Excessive pressure can bend or dent aluminum gutters, damage seams, peel paint, or even knock shingles off your roof, potentially leading to leaks and moisture issues. For a safer alternative, consider soft washing or cleaning them by hand. When using a pressure washer, it is safer to use gutter elbow extensions from the ground rather than climbing a ladder, as the force can cause instability. Due to the risks, you may want to hire a licensed and insured contractor for the job.

It’s recommended that you clean your gutters after a severe storm, however, regular storms don’t raise the same concerns. Look for signs your gutter might need cleaning after a harsh storm. Do you see broken branches and excessive leaves all over your yard? Chances are your gutters caught quite some debris. Also, ensure a few drying days before cleaning your gutters. Dry debris is much easier to clean.

Regularly clean debris, check for leaks at seams, and ensure proper drainage to prevent clogging and water damage.

Buried downspouts can freeze during cold weather as cold water runs through them. If you’ve discovered your downspouts are frozen, you can carefully pour hot water down the top of the downspout to defrost them. If that doesn’t work, you may need to dig your downspout back up. Avoid trying to break the ice from the exterior using a hammer as this can cause cracks and damage to your downspout.

To avoid freezing the future, consider adding a heating cable to the exterior, which can adjust heat based on the surrounding temperature.
