It was an excellent experience working with Hirst.
I had brought my 2005 Nissan Frontier in to Hirst a year earlier (2014) after it had been diagnosed by the dealership with a known transmission issue where the engine coolant mixes with the transmission line at the radiator. Hirst recommended I try replacing the radiator and having the transmission flushed. This worked for about a year and improved some of the symptoms, but there were still some issues with the transmission and it was starting to get worse. I figured it was a matter of time before it failed. Since I didn't want to get stranded, I decided to bite the bullet.
I called Steve to schedule the rebuild. I knew I absolutely needed my truck back before a certain date, and Steve gave me a date that he needed the truck in order for him to get it done by then. He was extremely friendly and professional through the whole process. As soon as they got my truck opened up, he called me that day with an update confirming that our diagnosis was correct and that a rebuild would be needed.
He gave me a worst case and a best case estimate date that the truck would be ready (only 1 day difference), and it was ready on the 'best case' day. I have put over 1000 miles on the truck since then and it is like night and day compared to before. The shifting is very smooth, just like the day I drove it off the dealer lot back in 2005. I have peace of mind thanks to the 2 year warranty that came with the work.
I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Hirst to anyone needing transmission work. They know their stuff and are a pleasure to do business with.

mechanic I trusted here yet and I also feared the price tag of getting it fixed. After doing some asking around Hirst got suggested to me at least 3 times. I finally decided I would bite the bullet and take it in to be looked at. Additionally my job has very unpredictable hours and I could not make a reservation farther than 24 hours out. I called Hirst and just explained the issue I was having and my situation with work and he worked me in to the schedule the next morning. I showed up and Steve took my truck out to look at it almost immediately. As I was waiting in the office I noticed tons of letters tacked up on the wall and decided to read several. Each one praised Hirst for their timely, quality, and honest work. I was impressed as I have never even contemplated writing a letter thanking my mechanic as is is rare I leave with a very happy feeling. When Steve got back he informed me that while it could be the transmission that was causing the issue he suggested having a $35 part replaced before having a much more expensive operation done on the transmission. He sent me on my way as his shop only does transmission work (this was part of the engine) and told me to come back if it continued acting up or if I did the work myself and wanted the code cleared off. His honesty blew me away. In a profession where so many often take the route that makes them the most money he gave me a bit of free advice that saved me tons. I can?t thank him or his shop enough.
