"Superbly professional Service. I would definitely hire again the guys are very polite, and have a good work ethic. If I could post a before and after picture here of how nice my driveway looks now, you’d be impressed too. I also hired them to do my pool area and it came out fantastic. May have them repaint the house when I get a chance."

"Extreme Maintenance was one of three companies I contacted for solution and quote for a drainage problem and washout between our house and next door neighbor’s. Michael called me back same day and came by the next day to look at the area and provided a sensible solution as well as a verbal quote. He even cleared and redirected a malfunctioning sprinkler head while here! The written quote came via email that evening. After two other companies looked at the area and offered suggestions, I felt Michael had the best handle on a solution and accepted his quote. He called me back right away, then came by to finalize details and set date for job (one-day job), which was Monday of following week. Because of rain delays job was actually done on Thursday, but Michael kept me updated along the way. He and his team came by on Thursday and completed job same day. They cleared away old lava rock and old plastic sheeting beneath it. Then, they back-filled a 6’ x 4’ x 1’ washout beneath our neighbor’s sidewalk, hand dug an 80 ft. long trench, laid drainage tubing along the length of the trench to funnel water to the swale behind the houses. Then, they covered the drain tube with filter cloth and topped with rock and cleaned up the work area beautifully. He called me out a couple of times during their work to show me what was being done and explained why. After completion, we walked the whole area to be sure all was to my satisfaction. It was! Late Friday afternoon, we noticed that a stationary irrigation head that was right in the path of the workers had been broken during the work. I called Michel that evening and he returned my call Saturday morning to say he would be by on Tuesday morning to repair (he was out of town for the weekend). True to his word, he was there on Tuesday morning and made the repair. He also repaired another malfunctioning irrigation head (nothing to do with his team) while there and advised us that we should look into some other maintenance issues with the irrigation system before they caused some major problems. I am very pleased with the whole project, from start to finish. Michael was knowledgeable about a solution to our problem, offered a fair quote, completed the job beautifully and within reasonable time. He was great at keeping me informed of anything effecting the job and provided great advice/warning about potential problems with the irrigation system. For anyone who needs a maintenance/installation job done, I recommend Extreme Maintenance!"

Deck Maintenance questions, answered by experts

The best and fastest way to remove paint from a deck often involves combining a chemical stripper with a pressure washer. Gel-based paint strippers are highly recommended because their thick consistency makes them less messy and easier to apply than liquid strippers. After applying the stripper to loosen the paint, you can use a pressure washer to efficiently wash away the residue. When using a pressure washer for this task, it's important to use a low pressure (under 1000 PSI) to avoid forcing too much moisture into the wood, which could lead to mildew or rot.

Deck skirting shouldn’t touch the ground, especially if you have a wood deck, which is vulnerable to moisture. Ideally, you should leave at least 3/4 of an inch of space between the deck skirting and the ground for more ventilation. Pros also recommend that you incorporate about 1 square foot of space for ventilation for the underside of the deck to every 150 square feet of decking. Proper ventilation prevents mold growth and rot that can damage your deck.

Trex states that its Trex decking is an eco-friendly composite material made of 95% recycled or reclaimed materials (including plastic and wood), making it a sustainable brand of choice. According to the company, Trex is one of the largest plastic bag recyclers in the U.S., with each 500-square-foot Trex deck containing about 140,000 recycled plastic bags.

A deck that isn’t attached to a house is called a floating or freestanding deck. These standalone decks are built near ground level, so they usually don’t need deck stairs. Some don’t even require permits. Generally speaking, building a floating deck is faster and more DIY-friendly than constructing one that’s connected to your home.

Composite decking requires a solid foundation, substructure, or subframe to ensure stability. This base is typically composed of posts, beams, joists, and footings. The frame's joists can be built from various materials like composite, plastic, timber, or metal, as long as the base can support the deck's weight without shifting. A professional deck builder might recommend installing the frame on a solid concrete base for added durability. The final design and materials for the substructure will depend on your budget, the type of deck, and environmental conditions.
