"Travis and his team did a wonderful job transforming my brother-in-law's home to get it ready to sell. The home was older and hadn't been painted since 1979, there was original wallpaper to remove and the cabinets really needed to be replaced. Being from out of state, we didn't have time for a complete remodel, and were delighted when Travis agreed to paint all of the cabinets in the home and garage in his original quote. The house looked absolutely terrific when it was done (see the dramatic before and after of the kitchen cabinets as well as the rest of the "after" photos uploaded). Travis was a pleasure to work with; he always picked up the phone when we'd call, and returned emails promptly. His team was punctual, friendly and accommodating of all of our requests. They were able to finish a day earlier for us, too; by working very late several days on the job, which we truly appreciated, as we had carpet, blinds and tile work to be done within the week following the interior painting. We've had many compliments on the exterior and roof painting by people passing by; a couple stopped to request the name of our painter! Travis is without a doubt the most professional painter I've ever met; he has unwavering commitment to quality and most of all, customer satisfaction. We highly recommend Premier Painting."

Wallpapering questions, answered by experts

Yes, you can apply peel-and-stick wallpaper over wood paneling, but it requires significant preparation for a good result. Peel-and-stick wallpaper has a weaker adhesive than traditional wallpaper and works best on smooth, non-textured surfaces like painted or primed drywall. Because wood paneling is often textured with grooves, any flaws in the underlying surface will likely be visible after application. To prepare the paneling, you must ensure the surface is free of cracks, holes, and protrusions by filling any indentations and sanding rough spots to create a smooth surface. An alternative is to remove the paneling and apply the wallpaper directly to the underlying drywall or plaster, provided it is in good condition.

Your peel-and-stick wallpaper can fall off for multiple reasons, including high humidity levels, extreme temperature changes, poor installation, and even the wall surface. Textured walls can prevent the adhesive from fully sticking to the wall, making it more likely for the wallpaper to peel off. Low-quality wallpapers with weaker adhesives are also more likely to fall off prematurely.

Peel-and-stick wallpaper is designed to be removed without damaging walls, making it a good choice for renters or temporary design changes. However, damage to paint or drywall can occur under certain conditions. To prevent issues, the wall surface must be properly prepared before application—it should be clean, smooth, dry, and correctly primed or painted. Applying wallpaper to a freshly painted surface can cause the paint to peel off during removal. Additionally, removing the wallpaper too quickly or aggressively can also cause damage. For best results, always follow the manufacturer's instructions for both application and removal.

If you prefer peel-and-stick to traditional wallpaper, you can skip the priming process. Many manufacturers don't require an additional primer if you’re installing peel-and-stick wallpaper to painted walls. However, if you’re applying peel-and-stick wallpaper to unfinished drywall, you’ll need to apply a primer first.

The color of the paint, its opacity, and the depth of the texture on the paper all affect how many coats of paint you need to apply to paintable wallpaper. You'll need at least two coats of paint to ensure even coverage. Don’t be surprised if you need to apply three coats if the embossing is very deep or if you use a dark color.
