I received several competing quotes for this job. Hawaiian Tropic was primarily chosen due to informative discussions I had with Doug (the owner) beforehand. His kind of forthcoming approach gave me the confidence that he would stand behind his company's work. There are a lot of established companies and fly-by-nighters that do pool repairs, but I wanted to make sure that I chose one that had a good sense of integrity and accountability. Once I was ready to proceed, the crew got started but I ran into some circumstances on my end that required an "abort mission" and a delay on the pool project. Doug was very good about this in spite of the impact to his schedule. He was able to pick up the ball later and continue work once the obstacles on my end had been cleared. As we got into it, some suggestions were made concerning additional (but value-added) work that was not initially requested by me. These were proposed in a very professional manner, and explained in detail beforehand so that an informed decision could be made before proceeding. I appreciated the proactive approach, which I think is better than simply executing "band aid" fixes that will do nothing to mitigate future issues. After the resurfacing was complete, Doug downloaded me his procedures needed to properly "break in" the new finish. I followed up with him via phone and text on an almost daily basis for 30 days to ensure that the requirements were being met. He was very helpful and courteous throughout the entire process, as were his crew. The quality of the resulting work done was good. Billing and invoicing was done in an organized way. Overall, I was very satisfied with the process. I am happy to recommend Hawaiian Tropic to anybody looking for a pool repair contractor.

I called Hawaiian Tropic Pools based on Angie's list ratings and reviews and set an appointment to get an estimate on pool service. Doug was punctual, and took the time and checked everything out thoroughly - the pool, filter, motor, pumps, etc. Since I am moving into a new home, Doug inquired why I wasn't using the pool company the previous owner used. I let him know I was going to meet them as well. He suggested that I meet with them first before making a decision. Thanks to his insights, all went well with the current pool company, and although I am not using his services at this time, I will certainly call on him if anything goes off course. Thank you Doug! It is rare to find owners like you with integrity that are willing to give honest feedback.

Doug from Hawaiian Tropic Pools called me back promptly to get more details on the message I left. I am having an issue with black algae in my pool. I had a lengthy conversation with Doug on the condition of my pool and the problem I'm having and remedies. He let me know that I'm not within his service area (it would require daily visits to my pool) but he continued to enlighten me as to how I could address the problem myself. I was very pleased with the conversation Doug and I had and with the information Doug provided to me to address the problem since it was not feasible for him to do it himself. I would highly recommend Doug for pool issues. I would also go to Doug for advice and estimates on pool repair and refurbishment. He is knowledgeable on pool issues and a pleasure to talk with on the topic.

The pool looks great! We are really enjoying the clean pool and the salt system is working great.

Doug seemed like a nice guy promised a great service. I hired him since i was having communication issues with the other company i had before for 6 years. He visited the pool, quoted his price. We started the service. When i went to see the pool its all green. I was surprised and contacted him. His response was he sent me an email asking me to pay more money for some extra time he has to spend to clean the pool. Which never appeared inbox may be went to spam. He stopped servicing the pool left it to go green for three weeks with out a phone call or text message or a follow up email. When i asked him he has noting to say but re forwarding the email. I never said i will not pay him or he never contacted him. This is a really bad customer service to say the least. Really disappointed with this company

Doug asked questions to troubleshoot over the phone first. Based on what I told him he decided a service call was needed. He explained his price structure and said he would try to fit me in later today. Within a few hours he called that he was on his way. While he troubleshot the issue he explained what he was doing and was able to isolate the problem. He explained he would first try to do repair without taking pump apart and what that would cost and then if he had to take apart what it would cost. We went ahead and not only did he do that repair, he also marked and explained all the valves on the pool and what they did so I would understand and then tested my water and told me what to do to get pool blue again. Doug was so helpful and I will definitely call him again when I need pool repairs!

Doug was responsive and professional. He's very busy but made sure to work us in to get us a new motor. I'd recommend them.

Doug even answered questions after he left and I did not use him for the work needed as of yet. Great, honest guy. Would recommend him and when I'm ready to have the work done, I will call him again!

The service that Doug and his team provided was excellent! I described my pool heater issue to Doug over the phone and he listened and took an interest in understanding what was going on. He explained that for my brand of heater he has the factory rep come to do a full inspection, diagnosis and repair. He arranged for the manufacturer to send a technician to my home to evaluate the heater. Everything was handled professionally by both Doug and the manufactuer (I had a phone contact from the manufacturer the same day I contacted Doug, had a follow up call scheduling the technician for the following day, the technician called when he was 30 minutes away, and Doug called after the repair was completed to make sure I was satisfied.) Within a couple of days from my initial contact with Doug, I once again had a heated pool! And I really appreciated the professional service that I received every step along the way. I would definitely recommend calling Doug for all pool-related needs!

I am not much of a computer guy and I rarely go in and write reviews, however I wanted to briefly write about the exceptional service I received from Hawaiian Tropic Pools provided me. The owner (I believe his name was Doug) and his worker were professional, on time, and did quality work. When they completed the job, the area was clean and looked like they were not even there. I feel their price was fair and they were honest. We were very pleased with the service provided and would definitely call them back for all our pool service needs.

Doug arrived with his assistant and began working on my pool so quietly, I didn't know anyone was working on my pool. I greeted both Doug and Ivanovo, friendly and gracious gentlemen. Doug explained his services and patiently answered my future equipment needs. I am so confident in Doug's ability I am having him Diamond Bright my pool.

Dog was very knowledgeable and fair with what he did. Would use again

1) Doug was very nice over the phone during my initial phone call and gave me some troubleshooting advice (which I had already done). He determined that he needed to make a service call for a flat fee, but if I needed to replace a pump or perform other labor orientated work, the service fee would be removed. [He's gotta put food on his table somehow and I thought that was totally fair.] 2) We set the appointment for the next day and he arrived right on time... he even called when he was 10min away. How can you beat that? 3) We spoke for a few minutes and was instantly on his hands and knees working the pool equipment trying to figure out what problems we had. We worked for about an hour, he taught me things about the system that I didn't know, found a few leaks, sold me the part to repair one of them and was courteous and explained everything as he did it so I could learn too. He suggested work that would need to be done in the future and not necessarily right now. He showed me how to calibrate the Kreepy which I had no idea needed to be done in the first place. He left with a smile and said that I could call or email with any questions and he'd be happy to help . Bottom line, if you don't call Doug, you're calling the wrong guy/company because he was awesome. I guess I have a new pool guy!

One afternoon my Hayward pool filter stopped working. It was flashing an error message on the display screen. I contacted Hawaiian Tropic Pools based on previous reviews. Doug answered the call and the first thing he asked was is the filter was still under warranty. I had no idea so Doug talked me through getting the serial number off the unit. Doug then off to do the research. He called me back quickly and told me that in fact the filter was still under warranty and that their would be no charge to me to have it fixed. Doug then arranged to have the filter repaired by an authorized Hayward repairman. Doug did all this work even though he was not getting paid for this job. He definitely went above and beyond. Hawaiian Tropic pools is highly recommended because of their integrity and commitment to customer satisfaction.

My pool motor was leaking and I called Doug to come take a look. He said it was an easy fix (bolts just needed tightening) and he didn't charge me! Turns out my timer was broke (it was very old) and I had him replace it. Extremely polite, competent and well knowledgable. Hard to find well knowledge people sometimes so I'm very pleased. Will be using him when ready for diamond brite

I've used HTP since I bought the house last year. I needed a lot of work done that the previous owner didn't maintain. I've been extremely satisfied with Doug. He's very responsive, reasonably priced and goes above and beyond for his service. I'd recommend him without any hesitation.

It's been nearly 2 months since the work and everything runs great.

Service provider was very honest. They let me know they only service spas that are connected to the pool, not portable spas. We have a portable spa.

It went very well, he showed up on time, easy to talk too. The boss is right along side to anwser any questions you might have.

I called and explained the problem I was having with my pool pump. The gentleman was nice and explained his thoughts and said he would be out later in the week. He never showed up or called me back.

From the beginning Doug was very thorough explaining what they will do to diagnose the leak and what needed to be done to fix the problem. He also guaranteed his work for 90 days which gave me some reassurance. After quickly finding the leak, Doug provided me with some options and did a great job of fixing the problem. He looked over all of my pool equipment and provided me with a summary of their condition. I decided to replace the valve on his recommendation. I would recommend Hawaiian Tropic Pools to anyone. I plan to resurface my pool at a later time and I will be calling Doug to do the job.

We were happy to find them. They did everything they said they would and did a good job. I would recommend them to others.

Doug troubleshooted our system and made some recommendations. Problem turned out to be residual from a lanthanum product we had used to fix a high phosphate problem. It was clogging up the filter very quickly right after each cleaning. Installed replacement pressure gauge, and advised me to pull and clean filter every time gauge hits 20psi. Eventually the interval between filter cleanings, returned to what it was before the lanthanum. Also added eyeball jets to the returns to improve circulation, and gave me a mini-lesson in pool filtration and circulation.

Call promptly which I was amazed especially in Florida. Called early evening and he returned the phone call that night. Our filter had to be replaced. He was a little less than the competitors. Had a few problems with it still leaking but, my husband was out their and said he was very detailed and both of them couldn't understand what was going on. Doug came back the very next day. He is a man of his word and he is very knowledgeable. He fixed the problem it's a week now. Would call him in a heartbeat. He's personable, thorough, takes the time to explain the maintenance of having a pool. He even told us our pool was in great shape the tile work and other things you need to keep up with had been done in the last 2 or 3 yrs. Glad to know since we had recently purchased the house and did not need anymore additional expenses. Call him you'll be glad you did!

They were very good. They had a good price and they were prompt. They did a good job.
